Painted Fire Hydrants in Carlsbad

Colorful fire hydrant in Carlsbad Village

These fire hydrants are from the adopt-a-fire-hydrant program in Carlsbad Village from 2005. Local business owners were encouraged to "adopt" a hydrant and have it painted by a local artist.

Funds ($300, $400, or $400) varied based on where the hydrant was located, and, in part, were used to benefit the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. About 25 hydrants were painted. Adoptees had to provide the artist and ideas, but paint was donated by Denault's True Value Hardward in the Village.

Nice way to dress up the hydrants.  My area made faces of dogs on them

Such a fun idea for the community. About twenty years ago we had cows everywhere. Yes, full size sculptures of cows that were painted and placed around town and in people's gardens.

Hi Grant Schneider

I think all the hydrants in the Village were painted, but I haven't seen any outside that general area. Or maybe just have not noticed!

How creative that is. Fire hydrants cannot be painted in my area. It is a finable offense.

Jeff Dowler, CRS - I love this post and the creativity is beautiful. But the meaning behind them goes deeper. The very idea of having a purpose, to "benefit the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund," makes it even more valuable. I hope it won't be long before painted hydrants are popping up all over and perhaps even going to Auction.

Those are very good but I hope it does not confuse the dogs who need that object of interest.
