How to Avoid Choosing the Wrong Sacramento Realtor

This is the third time this month that a seller has told me they read a blog I wrote and decided to hire me. It makes me wonder how many other clients never say a thing. Many just say they found me online, and that could mean anything. They could have gone to one of those websites that lists top agents and found my name on it.

Or they could have read a blog. I guess I should ask more questions about where my clients come from so I can continue that process, but the fact is I do so many different things online, it's hard to say which work. An online effort that I absolutely know works, though, is writing a blog. It's why I've been blogging for 12 years now.

Agents have a tendency to puff themselves...the numbers don't lie, do they, Elizabeth?

 

I can, at any moment, share the data with anyone who asks (and I often do)! When they realize that their friendship is more valuable to them as 'friends' and not injecting a business relationship, they typically make the right decision.

 

I just had a similar experience - the wife wanted her BFF to list their home. She sells about 4 houses a year and one of my Friday Diary posts shared that I had Closed the same number of homes she sold in a year but, in one week. The husband, a financier, read the post, gave me a call and encouraged his wife to chat with me. 

 

The deal is done and she was elated...and her friendship with her BFF is intact as well!

And, yes, we all need to get better at asking where the callers found us if we don't already have a direct link with a referral, Elizabeth. It tells us where we need to be working our marketing, doesn't it?!

Carol Williams I should get better at asking how they found me. Don't want to drill anybody, though, and sometimes they don't remember, just "online somewhere."

Dorie Dillard One of my new clients last week had read some obscure blog I had written, because when I started to share a story, she beat me to the finish line. I asked: how did you know that?? Wondered if maybe she knew the seller. Nope, she read it in my blog. Not only that, she remembered it. Blew me away.

I've made a point to always ask someone who contacts me whom I don't know how they found me and why they decided to call me instead of another agent. The responses are often quite amazing!

Hi Elizabeth- I think your post has been a reminder to all of us to find out how we were found. I cannot tell you how many consultations I've been on where the seller expressed dismay over the listing agent they'd chosen. So many times the agent was the cousin of a friend who just got licensed, a relative who lived 40 miles away, or someone that lived around the corner.

Bruce Kunz It doesn't have to be fancy stuff, you know. If  you can write an email, you can write a blog. Why not start out short and sweet and then expand as you feel more comfortable?

Joan Cox Believe it or not, I do not spend a lot of time studying how well I am doing as I do reacting to how well I am doing.

Every so often I check out my top posts because they are displayed when I go to WordPress, but I don't actively seek this info. I care that my phone continues to ring  . . .

I know, I'm a terrible example. Most people check out hits.
