Kerflummoxed Over Buyer’s Real Estate Question

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Leading Edge 71785

Kerflummoxed Over Buyer’s Real Estate Question?

I was asked a Buyer Real Estate Question that had me completely Kerflummoxed.

It was so illogical and the answer, if I could even acquire it, so useless that I was stumped.

So I asked Dear Old Dad.

He said, in the flash of a moment, “ It does not matter what you think of his question. Go get the answer. It is part of his decision making process.”

So I did just that. On both counts.

And then I closed the SALE.

I still shake my head about the question and still cannot believe I tracked down the answer.

Which brings up the point.

Everyone makes decisions a different way. You may get lots of viewpoints and lots of data and do lots of research and then make a decision totally different based on all these data points. You go out of the box or off the grid. Or you may value one data source over and other and weigh it more heavily like in a Statistics formula. Or you may go with the flow.

Whatever the case, get the answer. Don’t proselytize, hedge, bail or stonewall. Get their answer, then get yours.

I closed the sale. Thanks, Dad.

Yes, sometimes it's best just to find their answer and give them what they want than trying to figure out why they asked it, Cheryl!

Dorie Dillard Yep,my Dad nailed it like usual. He had multiple businesses in his lifetime.
Kathy Streib You already know that of all the I’M BACK posts you could have selected from last Sunday, this would have been my favorite, too.
Carol Williams Not telling. I partially blocked the question out of my collective memory because the illogic of it actually had me THAT rattled, that outdone, that puzzled, that SPEECHLESS. But following my Dad’s advice to get over myself and do the job or get the answer for the Client was the eye opener.

Sometimes we have to be reminded of the basics. Your father's advice addressed the issue at hand without judging the question or the asker.

Hi Cheryl

Getting the answers to questions, or helping buyers (or sellers) find those answers, is an important part of our role I think. Your Dad's advice was right on target. I have had a few questions that were puzzlers to me as well, but everyone has their own lens through which they look at home buying.

Love Dad's answer! Sometimes people do ask things that don't seem to make sense. But we all think through things differently, so I'm sure it made sense to the person who asked.

The buyers to our house had some really odd questions too. My agent and I for the life of us couldn't figure out why they were asking. People can be so weird sometimes.

I have never thought of it that way but you are right.  It is not my job to judge the question if it helps the customer make a decision.

Well, I see you using a word I have never seen before Kerflummoxed.

I have seen part of the word flummoxed.

Glad you still find value in your dad.

Thanks for sharing.

Good for you for asking Dad for advice - then taking it!

You know we're all curious about that question. It must have been a doozy to make you want to put it out of your mind that way.
