Annie Warburton was born in Brunswick, New Jersey back in 1866. She enrolled in the New York Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1890. After graduation in 1892 she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital, becoming Superintendent of Nursing at New York Hospital in 1907, she was named General Superintendent at Bellevue.
During WWI, she became chief nursing inspector for the U.S. Army hospitals where she made key decisions about nursing. She died in Cobalt, Connecticut in 1954.
What you may not know about Annie Warburton Goodrich, is that among her many accomplishments, she was the Founder of the U.S. Army School of Nursing and Dean at the Yale School of Nursing until her retirement in 1934. During WWII, she helped organize the Cadet Nurse Corps. One other thing in her spare time she was also president of the American Federation of Nurses.
