"Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do."
In the last few weeks, I have had 2 friends ask if they can pay me to help them sell their home. I told them YES, I will help them but NO, they can't pay me.
Let me explain:
First, I am no longer a licensed agent so I can't accept compensation.
Secondly, I can help them by referring them to an experienced and knowledgeable licensed agent.
It would be a disservice to them to do any more than refer them to a competent agent. I explain that I no longer have access to the necessary resources, channels and connections to properly market their home for the highest possible return on their investment. And, I am not current on the legalities of real estate documents and procedures. Further, I explain that the market expertise and layer of protection an experienced licensed agent offers between a seller and the buyer is invaluable.
I am knowledgeable in who is competent to handle these very different transactions. Other than that, all they're going to get from me is moral support. That way I can sleep at night and we can stay friends.
When you do the right thing, you are respecting those who need your help.
