Did you know particiipants in Section 8 can buy homes? I just had two clients do just that. Here's a program that helps people living in poverty actually get out of poverty. This has as long range effect. In order to participate, Sec. 8 recipients need to take classes from their local housing authority. They learn to budget, learn about working with Realtors and banks, and they learn about what to look for in a home. In addition, they need to have rented for a year, and they need to have had a job for a year. Once they have completed these requirements, they can purchase a home. Propsective buyers much get a home inspection, and Section 8 checks the property to make sure it meets their safety standards. The home owner pays the house payment less what Section 8 pays to the mortgage holder. People can have assistance up to 15 years, unless they have become disabled. If they are disabled it can continue longer. This particualarly helps people in expensive real estate market such as in New York or Hawaii. It helps resonsible people to get ahead in life. Check with your locatl housing authority to see if they are offering the program. Erin

This is great information. Who would have thought? Are the regulations similiar to the below market homes and section 8 would regulate or get a percentage of the home if they decide to sell?
