Am I Crazy or Did I Hear That Dog Say, "Help! They're Gonna Kill Me!"

A Tale From the Files of Legendary Famous Silicon Valley Super-Agent Judy Carr

by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe

We see miracles in the Silicon Valley real estate business every day. As young girl I remember my mother coming home one day, shaking her head muttering, "Am I Crazy or Did I Hear That Dog Say, 'Help! They're Gonna Kill Me!'"

When I asked her what was wrong, she said she was helping clients with two dogs to sell a house. Every time she came to the house, the older dog always came right next to her, looked her in the eyes and in her mind she heard him say, "Help! They're gonna kill me!"

After the offer was accepted, the older dog came right next to her chair and put his head in her lap. Judy Carr said it was like the dog was literally talking to her, saying, "Help! Now they're really gonna kill me!"

A few weeks later, just prior to closing escrow she came home, shaking with emotions. "I retro family dog imagewasn't crazy, that dog was right!" she explained, "The sellers told me tonight they're only taking the younger dog to the new house and plan to put the older dog to sleep."

God worked through my mother Judy Carr to literally save that dog's life-and in the best way possible.

She convinced the new buyers to keep the dog with the house!

That sweet old dog enjoyed becoming part of a new family while staying in the home he already knew and loved. He happily lived with them for several more years before passing away of old age.

Now that's what I call a great REALTOR!

Good morning, Michelle... a story that brought tears to my eyes. I just can't ever imagine abandoning one of my fur-babies, because they are my babies and my family.

Wow that is an amazing story Michelle.  The dog whisperer.  So glad your mother listened to her inner prompting.

I never understand how people can just put an animal down because it is old, even if it is healthy.

Great and emotional story.

A great agent is a sensitive person that is aware of more than the contract papers.

Thanks for sharing.

I love this story. The reason we started the animal rescue in our town was that one of my agents dealt with two couples who put their dogs to sleep rather than take them along on the move.

She had worked hard to find a new home for a deaf dog... when she succeeded she called the people and found that it was too late. Even though she was in place to receive a commission, she rejoiced when their closing was twice delayed, leaving them with extra expenses.

From those experiences we learned there was a great need to re-home dogs belonging to evil creatures like that. Of course, we soon found out that people moving weren't the only ones who abused/abandoned dogs...

What a heartwarming story. Your Mom was certainly someone very special. How cool that the old dog was able to stay in the home with the buyers!

I have an old dog, Molly.  She's been the feature of a few of my past AR posts.  I would never, EVER think of putting her to sleep simply because she's old.  She's about 16, I reckon.  Slow, lumbering but she's my sweet dog.  I've postponed trips, bought a car ramp because she can't jump up into the car anymore, and I've worked around her age many times. I'm so glad to read that the new owners kept the dog.  We live in such a "disposal" culture . . . don't want something because it's old . . . toss it.  I'm so glad you're a dog whisperer!

Dear Michelle,

Pets are not things. Once you adopt one, you have to be prepared to go the distance with them. They can live over 20 years in the case of dogs or cats & over 80 in the case of some birds or reptiles. If you think, you can be with them & treat them well for that period, have a pet. Otherwise, don't.
