I recently had a great experience of traveling to Ireland. My first Europeon experience! It was a 14 day tour and shared with my very dear and long friend Jean that lives in Northern California.
We flew from San Francisco to Dublin on Aer Lingus in 10 hours. Transfered to Shannon for a 45 min flight. Were met by our Program Director and driver. They were both great! Marie was a fountain of information, of course Irish and boy did she know her stuff with a great sense of humor!! We had a great time with them. From Shannon we went by coach to Galway.
What a small world, in San Francisco we thought we recogonized a priest that was in the town we both lived in years ago and sure enough it was. He bought us our first Guinness beer at the Shannon airport!!
We stayed three nights at the Ardilaun House Hotel. The first night we gathered for a drink and Welcome Briefing and then the best lamb dinner, EVER!!! The hotel was beautiful, food and service excellent. If you plan a trip I'd suggest Grand Circle Travel, they did an excellent job of packing in a full day of many interesting places. I'd love to refer you should you be interested!!
We were so fortunate to have almost perfect weather, in fact it was perfect. If we had not experienced the one day we really got wet it wouldn't of been Ireland! It was cool and near the ocean cold and windy as might be expected.
To bed early that night as we didn't do much sleeping on the plane. I'm so glad the jet lag didn't hit me going. Too excited I guess!
Tune in again, I will try to cover each day, one at a time. If I were doing it again I would take a recorder and journal it each night and do a book with pictures. I did make brief notes but now I have to depend on my memory so I hope I do it justice!!
