Today we enjoyed a walking tour of Galway. The narrow lanes, wood and stone shop fronts, resturants and pubs have an personality all their own. I loved the "olde worlde" atmosophere.
In the evening we enjoyed a typical Irish Ceili, at the Padraicins, which is the celebration of the harvest and usually includes a hearty meal followed by song, stories and dance. The Byrne family entertained. Two young girls did the Irish Jig, Dad played the guitar and told stories and Ma played the violin! The grand finale was watching the sun set on Galway Bay!
A typical Irish meal always included potatoes, sometimes more than one kind! We enjoyed lots of fish. A Full Irish Breakfast is Pork Sausages, Bacon, Rashers, Free Range Eggs (usually sunny side up), Red Potatoes, Fresh Mushrooms, Baked Beans & Pork Pudding.
We didn't see alot of crops but alot of sheep and some cattle. The bogs were amazing, they cut them into about the size of a brick, dry them for the fireplace or fertilizer. Everything was expensive. I can understand why for housing, getting past all that rock would be a real challange. Lime stone galore.
This pretty well takes care of the another day, we had dinner on our own and enjoyed a simple meal at a pub before the night owls hit!
