STAYCATION IN SAN DIEGO

Rising Gas Prices and Summer time will surely encourage locals to get creative with their vacation plans. Well, the good news is, our hometown is America's finest city. The average daily temp is 70 degrees. Not counting May Grey and June Gloom we have plenty of sunshine to go around.

Staying home and "vacationing" in your own city is the perfect solution if you don't want to leave your funds at the gas station or the airports.

Revisit your hometown! Start planning this memorable event today.

Go to the Local Visitor's Bureau
Take it from me ! Before Real Estate I worked at the Carlsbad Convention and Visitor's Bureau. We were a very invaluable source of local information, brochures and often had coupons to attractions like Legoland and the Flower Fields. You would be surprised at how many things you haven't done in your own hometown. Don't be surprised if you find things you didn't even know existed. I love to share some of the great discoveries I made in those days with my clients when I am out showing property.

Order Room Service!
Here in San Diego we have so many awesome resort properties that you can get away from it all in less than 30 minutes. Pick the type of activity you want and then book a night or two at a local establishment. Face it, we don't all live at the beach but a beachside resort can offer the relaxation and lifestyle we all long for. Take your pick of a great place and live on the beach for a couple of days. For the big city feel, book a room in Downtown San Diego. Here you have your choice, take in a ballgame, shop, have a fine dining experience or visit the SkyBar. If you want golf get -a-way pick one of the award winning golf courses with lodging available in our area. Don't forget to plan a pilgrimage to World famous Torrey Pines and tour of the most famous golf manufacturers in Carlsbad.

Luxury Awaits You

World class pampering can be had in Carlsbad at either the Four Seasons Aviara or La Costa Resort and Spa.  Famous for their top of the line service and attention to detail resorts of this caliber offer you the ultimate in pampering and relaxation. It's nice to know you don't have to jump on a plane to some exotic location to experience a 5 Star service.  Specialty spas abound in our area - so save the money on airfare and book a couple of treatments for you or your partner.

Wine Tours or Wine Bars

This is something we almost never do except when we are on vacation. It seems so appropriate, but San Diego County has wonderful wineries, not to mention the Temecula Valley. Schedule a tour, those bus trips are designed to be entertaining and guaranteed fun. Buy some! Purchase some local vinos, keep them for yourself or better yet, do some early Christmas shopping. It is always better to give a gift that has a little story that goes with it!

Do Something Goofy

Go on guided tours; go to a local museum off the beaten path. For example, in Old Town (San Diego) costumed tour guides will assume the personality of one of our settlers and give you the guided tour of the area, and maybe their residence of their origin. Did you know we have many famous ghosts here in town, if not, take the tour.

Try the Arts

See what is playing at one of our many local theatres. If you have never visited the Old Globe it is quite beautiful, really something to see.  We have some great outdoor events in the summer. Try Vista's Moonlight Theatre for some great summertime productions. Here in Carlsbad we have TGIF Jazz Concerts. For 10 summer Friday nights each summer the city sponsor's a free jazz concert. Take you low back chair, a picnic dinner and your dancing shoes for a good time. You might even win a raffle prize.

Eat Out

You can't really lose here in San Diego. We have so many crazy good restaurants and eateries. I think the rule here is, stay away from doing dishes 0r cleaning the kitchen AND get out of your rut. Try something different. Try a recommendation from a neighbor or a coworker. Just taking your take-out food to a park or the beach can be a blast. Who doesn't love a picnic. If you can't think of a great menu, call a local caterer or specialty market, they will have plenty of creative meal choices for you! Don't forget, not every city is famous for fish tacos!

My Really Hot Tip...Del Mar Racetrack

We have one of the most beautiful racetracks in America right here in Del Mar. Fun food and fast horses daily from July to September (dark on Tuesdays) Order a Del Mar Rits, get a lesson on handicapping, bet a couple races, or just beautiful people watch.  Free music concerts on Friday nights.

FINALLY - Be "In the Moment"

This is the cliché saying of our time but you really have to...Get your vacation attitude on. Tune out, turn off the cell phones and computers for a day. Business courtesy allows you 24 hours to return calls. Have someone cover for you, so no phone calls at all. Take lots of pictures. Relax. Enjoy and most importantly - Be spontaneous.
