Hanalei Valley Taro Fields on Kauai

Hanalei Valley taro fields on Kauai

The taro fields are beautiful and fun to see, especially from the main road on the hill in Princeville above the fields.

This photo, taken at a recent visit, is a fond memory, especially in light of the devastating rains and flooding that occurrred recently in the area closing roads, damaging houses, causing mudslides and decimating the taro fields. Reportedly as much as 28 inches of rain may have fallen in the area (I heard varying reports, some stating more than that) in a 24-hour period in mid-April.

I had seen a picture of the devastation there and I think that was the very spot that was flooded. It was beautiful and hopefully will be again soon.

I have always though living in a valley was a dreadful idea.  Great place to garden and grow things, but they do tend to flood after heavy rains.

I grew up on my Grandfather's farm and spent plenty of time in fields, but none of them came with that kind of view.

Now that's a view! So pretty and serene. I could see where a flood would be devasting. I hope Mother Nature is good over there and life begins anew.

Weather is impacting all parts of the world negatively. These fields are beautiful to see but bet they have suffered from the two feet of rain.
