99th Washington State Apple Blossom Festival

"You can count the seeds in an apple but you can't count the apples in a seed."

The last week has been filled with lots of activities for the 99th Washington State Apple Blossom Festival.  Having lived in Wenatchee for 47 years, I don't attend too many of the events unless I have out of town company to go with.  Call me an old fogie but the older I get the less I enjoy the crowds... and it does get crowded.

Wenatchee has long been known as the Apple Capital of the World and we know how to celebrate the anticipation of a bountiful fresh crop. This time of year is gorgeous in the Wenatchee Valley with all the flowers, flowering trees and fruit blossoms.

Friday evening, my step-son (Max Jr.) and his wife (Janice) came up for a quick overnight visit to go to the Classy Chassis car Parade last night and the main Parade today.  Max Jr. is a car guy. He got the car restoration bug from his Dad and just loves old cars.  He is currently working on an old Chevelle and a pick-up truck.

This morning we got out fairly early to get in on the Kiwanis club pancake breakfast and to look at the floats in the staging area.  It is a chance to actually talk to the people who create the floats and accompany them to the various Festivals around the region.  Some of them come from quite far away.

Turns out as we were waiting in line to buy tickets for the breakfast I saw a mortgage broker I used to work with and said "hi".  He had 2 extra prepaid tickets so the 3 of us only had to buy 1 breakfast.  Score!

I've posted just a couple pictures below that I took this morning, but here is a link to the local newspaper.  Wenatchee World photo gallery.

Hi Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD ,
Yeah, truth is I've never been much of a crowd person.  I guess that's what happens when you grow up in Corbett.  LOL

Carol,

Like Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD we are not crowd fans.  I remember rolling my eyes when Ron's aunt suggested that the family rent a trailer to watch the Rose Parade in Pasadena...we nixed the idea....I do love Washington apples and cherries, and a great apple pie.  The Four Seasons in Seattle has or had (it has been a while since we were there) the best apple pie!

Hi Carol

I am not a fan of crowds either, but will endure them for certain events. This sounds like a pretty good time. Wow, 99th annual!! That's pretty impressive. So are your photos!

Hi Carol- I'm the crazy one in my family that loves crowds!  I can remember when I saw my first apple tree!  Glad you enjoyed the Apple Blossom Festival.

What a great event to share.  I am like you, if there is someone from out-of-town I will do the tourist thing with them.

How fun that Apple Blossom Festival event looks, Carol!  We don't have an apple blossom festival here.  However, in nearby Apple Hill we celebrate the apple harvest each autumn.

Good morning Ron and Alexandra Seigel ,
I guess I never got used to crowds, having grown up in a very small town.  I can do crowds, just prefer not to.  What's not to love about Washington apples and cherries, right?

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE® ,
You kind of have to when you have out of town company, don't you?  Fortunately, I know my way around and all the back streets so I can avoid much of the traffic.     Happy Monday!

Good morning Debbie Reynolds ,
Lots and lots of apples and pears and cherries are grown in the region.  Some of the old orchards are being replaced by vineyards now.   Happy Monday.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat ,
The fruit industry has long been a big part of our economy and definitely worth celebrating.  Besides apples, there are a lot of pears and cherries grown in the region.  Vineyards are replacing many of the old orchards.

Happy Monday, Myrl.  Have an amazing week!

Hi Lauren Williams, CPO ,
There is an amazing variety of floats.  The number of hours to create and build a float from beginning to end is staggering.
