What is the "Magic Bullet" for Social Media Success?

There really is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to social media success.  There are, however, things that are consistently important in all social media marketing.  We know it takes a lot of work and you must be willing to put in the time.  Start with the following "magic bullet" strategies to start seeing a positive difference in your efforts.

Content, Content, Content - Meaningful content is essential to all social media realms.  Know your target audience and provide quality content that speaks to them. Include your teaser text and link to your latest blog posts, videos, inspirational quotes, infographics, and videos. Short on ideas? Share other people's valuable posts.

Know Your Tribe - Studies have shown that people will engage more with people they already know.  Search for your contacts or import them into your social media accounts.  Ask them to connect with you.  Send out a tweet to your Twitter followers and ask them to connect with you on your other social media networks, too.

Consistency Counts -  Social media success requires consistent posts.  One way to do this is by scheduling your posts in advance. SmartSheet.com offers several Excel scheduling spreadsheets.  Decide what you're going to post, links, graphics, and text and add it to your schedule.  HootSuite provides another simple way to schedule posts.  Once you've decided what you'll post, schedule it in advance on the HootSuite calendar.  You will have consistent posts.  When you have more to say above and beyond what you've scheduled, add it "by hand" to your social networks.  Setting aside scheduling time once a week saves a lot of time in the long run.

Be Sociable - Social media interaction is imperative for building your audience. Reply to other people's posts, retweet and share, like, reply, and mention. This quickly takes your one-way communication to a robust two-way communication.  Be genuine and authentic.  Controversial topics must be done with caution and respect.

"If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all."  Thumper, Bambi

Interact with influencers in your industry. Follow and interact with them on a daily basis. Engagement is important to your success.

Using these four magic bullet strategies for social media success will move your business toward consistency and genuine community.

I know more agents that are doing a lot less with Social Media than are doing more

I subscribe to the principle of if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I just am not a pot stirrer for the fun of it.

Thanks for the social media tips, Pamela. I think content, and consistency, speak loudest to me...and are something I need to improve on.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the useful tips Pamela Cendejas.  Your comment  There really is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to social media success is so true. Additionally, what might have worked at one time may not work now, and sometimes dusting off older style posts seem to resonate once again. One comment I'd like to make is trying to figure out when is enough, enough or when is it too little. When I see posts daily or more often than that from the same person, my initial thought is "here we go again". It is actually a turn-off to me to be bombarded by what are clearly automatic and canned posts. I believe authenticity and well thought out posts are much more effective than some program randomly posting on your behalf. Of course, that is just my opinion! :-)

Pamela, I am glad you put Magic Bullet in quotation marks.

People are always looking for the one thing that makes them rich.

You did a great job of dispelling that myth.

I have been buying and working internet leads since the year 2000. Google PPC is not actually social media but paying money in any direction for leads requires a solid follow up strategy. When you spend money for someone that barely raised their hand the work to stay top of mind is the hardest. Lets take Facebook leads for example, these leads can be better quality but the follow up remains critical. I am closing leads today that I bought many years ago and some leads will close twice in a 10 year period. Get back to work people....

I LOVE Hootsuite, and yet I always forget about how I can use it to schedule things to post out to my FB Biz page, personal page and at least one Twitter account. (They changed the rules and only allow you to post to one Twitter account...I have 2)

Must remember.
