Staging Is Not A Passing Fancy

Without giving it away, let's just say I've been around long enough to know better. I remember the pre-cell phone and PC days. I remember groaning at many of the passing color and decor fads in homes before I had a clue I would end up a professional home stager. I remember a mid 90's house hunt. Every home I saw had maroon this and hunter green that. Now days it's farmhouse meets mid-century meets industrial meets....

Some of these in and out trends are quite nice if they fit the style and function of a room and the overall home. But in the hands of an over enthusiastic decorator most are not. Things like the bar cart, furry furniture and pillows or animal prints on everything from rugs to lamp shades have been around a bit; in then out then in. Color trends another can of worms.

One rule of thumb appropriate for clothing...just because they make it in your size doesn't mean you should wear it...also applies to interior decor and color especially if you are staging to sell. Trendy in one part of the country may not be the same in another. When the so called experts tell you what's in and what's out caution is key. Rules of thumb: (1) if it looks good it's in style and (2) less is more.

Prospective buyers can be a tricky bunch when it comes to this kind of stuff. While not hard to remove versus avocado and pink tile, overdone trendy decor can be a big distraction in an otherwise nice space that is hoping to attract a buyer. If you have ever watched an episode or 2 of HGTV's House Hunters or similar programs, it's amazing what some get hung up on as a negative when it comes to purchasing a home. Why risk it? Sure it's on fleek (itself a trend term) to you but maybe not so much in your market.

A professional home stager can help you navigate through the trends and use them appropriately. We specialize in incorporating the look that fits the home style and market. Don't forget you are competing with other listings and should stand out in a postive and memorable way. A way that says to every potential buyer who walks in the door "this could be us!".

Looking at this photo, you may see we have incorporated several trends in decor and color but in a way that will not slap buyers in the face. Can you pick them up? Are they still in or out. Buyers made that call and quickly. Call us today to see how we can present your listing the way it was meant to be. (800) 516-5213

Hi Ana- it is so good seeing you here!  You make a very good point. Staging is not a passing fancy just as marketing a product. The job is to make it appeal to buyers!  Well done.
