Working Vacation?

By
Real Estate Agent with Legacy Development Group, LLC

Just curious...is it really a vacation if you are still working?  I'm about to head out of town for a much needed sanity break...err, vacation, and really want to enjoy myself.  However, part of my work ethic is to always answer the phone and reply to emails instantly or in a timely basis.  All of my clients know that I'll be out of town and know how to reach me if anything comes up.

I will have my phone on me and the place where we are going has wireless internet so I can do everything I need to do, it's just a matter of should I?  All the other times I have gone on vacation I have had people cover for me, however this time, I'm on my own since I have started a new company and I'm the only agent.

How do you all handle working vs. vacations?

Thanks in advance!

Todd

With having your own company, it's hard to take a day off!  What I suggest is that you find another broker in your area who can cover for you when you have to be gone and vice versa...  Enjoy your vacation!

This has always driven my husband nuts!! I was on the beach in Ft Lauderdale answering the phone. Sometimes I think it's just about who you are, some people can let it go and others can't. For me, if I didn't answer the phone, it will kill me to not know who called.  Years and years ago my husband said something to me, he said my being a work a holic, is just a part of me, it's just the way I am. I don't have to do it, it makes me happy.

Perhaps you can carve out time through the day to do it, say 4 times a day, 1/2 hour each time. Relax a little though~~~~~  ENJOY

I intend not to work, spend time with family, but you never know what comes along!  Actually, I've been invited to a client's BBQ Monday.  Guess I will be combing both.  Enjoy!!

Yeah it drives my wife nuts too :), "Why do you always have to bring your laptop?" - I love that one.

It is good to have an assistant who can help back you up.  But yes, it is hard to get away from the constant influx of phone calls and emails. I like going on cruise boats because there is no cell phone reception and limited access to email.  It forces me to relax.

Crave out some time to check your emails/voicemail but don't be a slave to them.  Handle any emergencies.
