Last week saw some reprieve from the persistent selling and this week's GDP and jobs numbers could either counter or build the trend.

The Highway 37 Outhouse

Ever driven from Novato to Vallejo on the 37?  Ever wondered about the outhouse in the middle of the salt marsh?

Richard "Fresh Air" Johnson, of the eponymous bridge in the immediate area, was a duck hunter and decoy carver who lived on a small ark moored in these tidal flats during the first half of the 1900's.  Sometime after he died in 1951, an admirer of his carvings moved his outhouse to the present location and installed a toilet (no, it can't possibly work...) as a modern art statement. 

Before I laughed too hard, I reminded myself that at least this humble man somehow earned a legacy.  His carvings are highly sought after, a piece of humorous artwork commemorates him and he's got a bridge that bears his name.  Not too bad for an Estonian immigrant who, by some firsthand accounts, never bathed.
