Disabled Veterans Homestead Exclusion
If you live in North Carolina and the state is your permanent, legal residence and you are a fully disabled veteran, you are eligible for the DISABLED VETERANS HOMESTEAD EXCLUSION.
Under the Disabled Veterans Homestead Exclusion, North Carolina excludes from property taxes the first $45,000 of assessed value for specific real property or a manufactured home which is occupied as a permanent residence by a qualifying owner. To qualify for the Disabled Veterans Homestead Exclusion in North Carolina, a veteran must:

Be an honorably discharged veteran, who has a 100% total and permanent disability that is service-connected. The surviving spouse is also eligible if they are drawing DIC from the VA.
- Be certified by the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs or another federal agency of the permanent total disability that is service-connected.
There are no age or income restrictions for the Disabled Veterans Homestead Exlusion.
