The Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Wenatchee, Washington houses local and regional history, including information and artifacts of our Native American heritage.

For those of you unable to get to the museum, here is a link to a wealth of very interesting information about the History of Washington's Native American Tribes of Washington State

The apple industry has long been a strong part of the economy of the Wenatchee area and the museum has a very interesting section on the history of the apple business. The Washington State Apple Commission, based in Wenatchee, Washington offers information on every aspect of the apple industry.  They have a very interesting and educational onsite Visitors Center.

WVMCC hosts a variety of special events and family programs throughout the year. Here is a link to the upcoming events hosted by the museum.  We have a very interesting geologic history in Central Washington and the Lake Wenatchee Geology Tour is one of those upcoming events.

I recently spent a fun 6 hours attending the Historic Homes Tour hosted by the WVMCC.  We toured 8 Historic Homes, a hotel built in the early 1900's and a mausoleum where many prominent citizens are interred.  This is an annual event, so if you missed it this year you can catch it next year.  I will be writing some posts on some of the structures I toured this year.

WVMCC was founded in 1939 and is housed in two historic buildings, containing three floors of displays.  It's a great way to spend several hours with family or friends.

Carol, I visited the Washington DC museums while working for the government. We have historic museums here in WV, perhaps not as big, but still worth taking tours.

What a great localism, Carol. I am looking forward to seeing your Historical Home tour post. Bet that was fun - and it would be awesome to see the Apple headquarters too - and I don't mean electronics. :)

Hi Wayne Martin ,
Yes, I bet Chicago does have a lot of museums.  We are a small area and one museum seems to be enough.  There are interesting museums in the smaller outlying areas too like Cashmere and Waterville.

Good morning Myrl Jeffcoat ,
Yes, it is.  It certainly makes me appreciate what the early settlers and pioneers did to be the trailblazers of the prosperous place we now enjoy.

Hi Lise Howe ,
I have been to many of the DC museums and they are amazing. A friend and I spent a week there many years ago.  I'd like to get back some day and explore more.

Hi Barbara Todaro ,
It is a different kind of museum due to the very nature of our geography, climate and early American history.

Yes, the home tour was quite fun.  One of my friends had lived in one of the homes when she was young.  That was very interesting for her.

Oh, I would love to tour the Wenatchee Valley Museum - anything 'apples' is appealing to me too! And, of course, the historic home tour would be right up my alley.

Great localism post, Carol! Happy Sunday!
