Folks my local computer guy has shared some new information about what else? Another Russian hacking, but this time it's not getting major air time on the news channels, although some of you may have heard about it. This is malware that you won't find out about until it happens to you. Last year one of my coworkers was hit with the ransomeware virus, and the held her computer information hostage until she paid them. It was insane, they hack your computer then lock you out of if. And then demand money from you to get your access back! Not a hoax, you are welcomed to do a little research of your own just to fact check me LOL♥
The FBI has put out an urgent request of all US internet users to reboot their routers. There is known Russian malware affecting 500k home and office routers, and rebooting the router will stop it. Find out if your router was affected here: Router List. (of course my router is on the friggin list) but just because yours isn't listed you should probably unplug just in case)
Here is a You Tube Video from my buddy Leo LePorte that explains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsndaiuLqyY
Here are some simple steps.
1. Locate your router.
2. Pull out the electricity plug (it is the skinniest wire)and make all of the lights go out.
3. Wait 5 seconds.
4. Plug the electricity plug and watch the router lights come back on. You can surf again in about two minutes.
These immediate steps stop the active processes. A router firmware upgrade will permanently resolve your vulnerability. Now I have to ask...
Is this a permanent fix for a router vulnerabiity? I doubt it, but I guess some action is better than no action. I don't know about you, but my livelihood is done from my computer, so I can't afford to have it compromised. If you didn't look at the video above, take a look.
