The Baby Hummers Have Arrived in Carlsbad

Baby Hummingbirds in Carlsbad

I have a new listing hitting the market in the Calavera Hills area of  Carlsbad, probably in a couple of weeks.

The out of town seller is working on a number of interior improvements, as well as cleaning up the back yard. I was over there a  week ago before work started and discovered the hummingbird nest in the vine on the fence. The landscaper was careful to not trim the vine right by the nest.

The baby hummingbirds have just now arrived - 2 of them. No, I don't know if they are boys or girls but they are pretty cute.

Great picture Jeff. They are so cute. Never seen a nest quite like that before. Then again I've never seen a couple of baby hummingbirds either so Thanks for the new experience.

Jeff Dowler, CRS There's a huge nursery, Flower World, in my area which is mostly covered. The local hummingbirds no longer migrate - resident year-round and routinely raise families. Amazing fun to watch.

Jeff I have a hummingbird feeder on my deck so I get to see lots of hummingbirds during the Summer, but this is the first time I have seen one of their nests.

Hi Nina Hollander

They are VERY cute and so tiny...less than 1 inch! I have seen larger babies but not this young. Hope they grow fast with showings coming up in a couple of weeks!

Ron and Alexandra Seigel  - the nests really ARE pretty impressive, especially given the size. Hummingbirds are impressive in many ways!

I enjoy the hummers alot Debe Maxwell, CRS  and they are here year-round. Pretty amazing what they can do for their size. The eggs were the size of jelly beans!

Hi Lauren Williams, CPO

They really are interesting birds to watch. Here in So Cal they are around all year and we have lots of them around our yard. Their antics in the air are pretty amazing. We have a couple of feeders so we get to enjoy seeing them actually just sitting!

Well I feel a little badly since there is a lot of activity at the house...but I suppose they will be just fine. Fun to see!

Hi Kathleen Daniels

Yes, only 2, and from what I read that seems to be the rule for Mom Hummers.

HI Jeff Dowler, CRS - Congrats on your new listing!  I have never seen a Hummingbird nest before.  We get a lot but I don't know where they nest! Very cool.

What a wonderful treat! They are one of my favorite birds and fascinate me with their flying antics. These little babies will be zooming around soon with amazing aerial skills.

As you can tell, Jeff, we all are thinking how lucky you are to have been able to see a hummingbird's nest up close and personal. And I'm glad that the landscaper worked around the nest.

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS .  When we lived in Anaheim, my parents had hummingbirds build nests near their dining room window.  It was great to be able to watch them grow.

Jeff Dowler, CRS had to smile when I saw this post. We have a couple of baby hummingbirds as well.  It's been so cute to watch them figure out how to get water from the fountain. They kept trying till they got it! So tiny!!!
