A new listing..a premiere open house...the opportunity to meet new people and showcase the features of our Sellers' home...nothing like it to get the adrenalin pumping and the opportunities flowing. Greeting people at the front door and having "live in person" conversations" ...a break from the text and email...smiling faces and warm handshakes...mmmmm. We are prepared with our sign in book, custom brochures ...and of course...cupcakes...feed them and they will come...and they certainly did ! A steady stream of anxious buyers are just what open houses are made of....and agents and sellers dream of....dreams fulfilled !
A lady came thru the door and I extemded my hand and introduced myself. "Oh good...you are the Realtor...just the person I came to see," she said. She went on to explain that her husband had passed away and she was cleaning out the house and wanted to sell it to move to another state to be with her children. She had made contact with an agent in the other state who told her she would have to sell her home and rent for a year since no home sale contingencies would like be accepted in the Sellers' Market in what wouild become her new home state. She didn't want to rent...or move twice...didn't know what was needed to get her home ready to sell...and really was looking for "the voice of experience" in real estate to make this transition less stressful. She knew there were things she should do to get her house ready for the market and unsure that she could locate reliable contractors that would do the work fairly and at the proper price. Lots of overwhelming tasks and no clear direction....until now.
I assured her that David & I would come over and look at her home. We can suggest reliable contractors for whatever was needed...and we can help her with everything from a mover to finding an agent who will work with her in her new location and the transition would be a smooth one. The relief on her face was priceless...and a good part of why we love this business...sometimes you are the "first aid/fast aid" people who bring comforting solutions to people at a time they need it most.
We are fortunate to be in a "people business" and more fortunate when we can be the people who make a difference in people's lives...whatever their situation.
