So Far So Good – Strike 1 & 2 For Rent Control Advocates…


Long Beach and its residents can breathe a little easier today. Misguided housing advocates miss the first deadline to submit their rent control petition on November ballot.

 

For those that have been following my mini-series on proposed rent control in LB, I am happy to announce that rent control advocates missed their first deadline to get their petition on the LB Nov 6 ballot. Josh Butler and his small advocacy group had until June 1st to submit 27,462 registered voter signatures for the Nov 6 ballot.

 

However, legally Josh and his group have until July 30th to submit 27,462 or more registered voter signatures in order to make the special election 2019 ballot (and or) the 2020 Presidential primary election ballot.

 

The small advocacy group did not comment on their missed deadline nor have they disclosed any information as to their progress in getting the needed signatures required to get their proposed petition on the ballot.

 

I have personally reached out to Josh Butler, but to no avail. Although, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that (as of Friday) the phone number to the groups' office is now no longer in service. Hopefully, Josh and his group realize that LB and its residents won’t be fooled by their false narrative...

That's interesting that the advocates missed this deadline.  I wonder why that occurred.

Myrl Jeffcoat ~ The group is required to produce 27,462 registered voter signatures and their first deadline was June 1st. That's a very tall order even "if" most folks were in favor of rent control (which they are not.) Thankfully, most LB registered voters are educated and know the facts about rent control which hampers their efforts to get the needed signatures. The group has until July, 1st to get the signatures to the City for verification or else forfeit their petition
