Celebrating Memorial Day!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Fran Rokicki Realty, LLC

Even though it is being celebrated almost a week early this year, folks are hustling about to pick up their picnic/cookout items for the holiday.  2008 Memorial Day.  I don't know the reason for the change of the actual date of the holiday, but, it has been moved to this Monday.  The weather is sunny and warm and it is to continue being so for the weekend.  I had to run into Sam's Club this morning, in between appointments, and I was amazed at the number of people who were there.  I don't think anyone from my area is going away this weekend!  Carriages were overflowing with hot dogs and hamburgers, rolls, salads, paper plates, and cupcakes that looked very patriotic(and yummy).

As I was walking to my vehicle, I saw an older man coming towards me.  He was going out of his way to bring a carriage out of a parking space, and as he passed me, I said thank you for your service to our country, we appreciate you.  He hugged me:)  Such a simple phrase, yet, he told me it made his day.  He wore a special hat that was adorned with Navy pins.

Monday morning, our towns will hold their parades for this Memorial Day, 2008.  I think that more people will appreciate our military service men and women more than ever.  We hear of the sacrifices these brave people are making for us on the news and at our community centers.  I don't think we can thank them enough.  These parades are to recognize these individuals that placed their country and our safety first and foremost in their lives.  Be sure to attend and show your support.  Though we hold picnics/cookouts for the holiday celebration, the kickoff of summer, Memorial Day is a day to remember those who sacrifice for us and for those who have sacrificed for us.

God Bless America!

Frances I believe that some where along the line the celibration for this Holiday was changed to the Monday of or the Monday before the Memorial Day, that is why it is so early this year.
