HOW WOULD YOU INFORM A BUYER OF THIS?

I think I have heard everything now--Buyers in The Hamptons are falling victim to more and more of this sort of disruption:

BUYERS CLAIM THEY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT TRASHY TV SHOW FILMING NEXT DOOR

More and more we are finding the bucolic environment of the Hamptons, the reason most people come here and even choose to live here for over 2 centuries, are being whittled away. Privacy rights do not exist here--you rely on your local politicians to see to it that you can enjoy a peaceful way of life when you buy a home in The Hamptons.

Slowly but surely, those who find the need to advertise "Party Town" happenings here in The Hamptons, are gaining attention and those who are looking for a "Party Town" atmosphere come here in greater and greater numbers to Party Down!!

We are losing the peace and quiet that is an intrinsic part of life here---We are losing the very reason celebrities chose to come here in the first place: A place of complete and total respect of privacy for ALL!

Those celebrities who found their way here in years past, did so knowing that they would be left alone--that their privacy would be as precious to the famous souls as the it is to the  locals!--It was an unspoken promise!

It has all changed--The last few years have proven to be more of a big city way of entertaining--Not the normal clam bakes on the beach and  lawn parties at dusk in a private home

Right on the front of the magazines that pile up in frontof stores and other places of business, you can see the stories: "Wild and Crazy party of the year", "Jazzy Digs in this mansion on the ocean"..."Throngs gather to see the performance of 'Name any Group'"

This is what fills the magazines here---Stories of flagrant deisregard for local laws and zoning requirements--permits are needed for ALL film shooting here in The Hamptons.

And now you have this: "SUMMER HOUSE" HAMPTONS SHOW HITS PERMIT HICCUP

Bet these neighbors will be beside themselves before the summer is over!! Somethng tells me it is the Water Mill address mentioned above!

The Hamptons--Ahhh...bucolic meadows and quiet neighborhoods...

Why is it necessary to make this beautiful place a hellish trash heap of bad parties and even worse behavior???

I blame the folks who market to the party goers and who advertise this way of life here--and I must admit, I also blame the towns who allow the film/party permits for these major disruptions to take place!

Wow that sounds very disruptive to a vacation town that was formerly known for privacy and solitude. Total shift.  Personally I'd be moving if I was after privacy and quiet.  What's going on with the folks running the town?  Are they doing this for economic reasons regardless of what the locals and long time summer residents want?  Sounds like it to me.

We obviously have he same problem here - L.A. They are trying to clamp down on the Hollywood Hills mega mansions that are hired out for lavish parties. It really is too bad.

Hi Anna:  You are so right--it has begun to ruin the atmosphere here for the locals and those who chose to live here for the peace and quiet. My whole point in making this an issue is to point out to the Town that they are doing such a disservice that we will be facing even bigger problems than this kind of disruption...it is really not very comfortable to those of us who live here on  a year round basis....

Hi Margaret: Yes, and that is s obvious that it may be the way the whole place is heading anyway...sad if you ask me.

Hi Jane: I think it is a bigger issue than just people who want to party--there is a big divide between those who live quietly and enjoy a relatively carefree lifeand those who spend money like water and look to make life adjustments for all of those around them! I see it in my own family! There is a generation gap that I have never seen before...

That is heartbreaking for those who have lived there for any length of time and cherish the quieter lifestyle for which the area was known.  As for town leaders, sadly, it seems if politicians are involved, you only need to follow the money.

Hi Susan: Money is the only thing that could make this kind of thing ok--If you pay enough you will get what you want, no matter who has to suffer! I don't know for a fact that this is what happened in this instance--But the idea that there are more people now who DON"T know about the real Hamptons and the way a private, peaceful life is revered here is mind numbing to me...Why choose to come here to do your dirty deeds? Why not stay in the city where anonymity is king--you can do anything there and get away with it! No, those who flaunt their party lifestyle in the face of the quiet neighbor do it to get seen and known...publicity and there are more than enough marketing mumb-nuts who will cover those parties and "sell" the idea to others. If you recall the Lizzy Grubman incident in 1999 (or about then) then you may also know that she ran over 9 people at Conscience Point night club---that is actually the place where the first settlers came ashore in 1640 to settle Long Island. No One mentioned that at the time so not many know the truth.

Morning Paula.

I believe true privacy is something a lot of us want but few achieve.  Sad to hear the Hamptons is next in line.  Its about the almighty dollar

Hi James: Right you are---and when the party crowd discovered the Hamptons in the mid-2000's it was all over but the shouting (no pun intended) The marketing crowd picked up on it and started advertising the party atmosphere that could be found here--it spread like wild fire...Now we have a whole new demographic who has no respect for the history or the local population. Thanks for commenting...

Paula Hathaway, REALTOR, LBA - This makes me feel very sad for the people who live there. It's like stigmatization in the making and it can't come to any good. It must be very hard to see and witness so many radical changes while these demographic game changers are winning.

Hi Patricia: I keep hoping for a moment of awaremness on the part of the public--those who care and those who can do something to make others aware of the trend to"Party Town"--It may take a while but i do believe that there are enough to make a difference. We, as real estate professionals need to stop promoting the idea of the party lifestyle here--It never was that way before; why should it be that way now??? People grow up and maybe that is what it will take; meanwhile where does it leave the Hamptons and it's history?

What comes to mind is the Seinfeld episode where Jerry and his friends head to the Hamptons for a weekend trip. Having never visited, I know a little about what it's like when a sleepy town becomes a tourist destination, with the onslaught of crowded streets, jam-packed restaurants, etc. If privacy and seclusion were important to my buyer clients, I'd tell them the lifestyle in the Hamptons is evolving and suggest some quiet alternatives.

Hi Laura: Sorry I didn't get a notice of your comment here but thanks for reading and commenting! This summer iis an absolute zoo but I am having all kinds of people calling me for full summer rentals--that is starting to happen againg so that tells me that the long weekend thing is slowing down a bit, both on the part of the tenants and the owners.

Hi Pat: Good and wise advise! I saw that Seinfeld episode too and it was so funny....The madness has slowed a bit and the homeowners who used to do Air B&B has slowed a bit too so that is all good. I did more July and August rentals this year than I have done in a long time---all in the last 3 weeks, after I wrote this post! Maybe they heard me?!
