We all know there are a lot of excellent articles posted on ActiveRain, offering us the opportunity to learn from our peers on a daily basis.
What I've noticed is, in addition to learning from the articles and questions, the comments can be just as interesting and educational. I often receive new insights on various subjects AND find fodder for new blog articles of my own.
Do you make a habit of reading other responses to gleen other perspectives on the subjects being discussed, or do you prefer to share your viewpoint and move on?
I truly enjoy reading other viewpoints and, especially, how the business differs from region to region.
Hi Brian England ,
So interesting to read the different perspective, isn't it? That's why I hang out in the Q&A section every day.

Yes, Alexandra, there is THAT problem... which is totally meaningless. It's not like we can spend the points and it really makes the commenter look foolish.

You can tell those who read comments and those who cut and paste their lives. I know several Rainers who comment on the comments rather than the post Carol...

Hi Carol... indeed I do remember those EF Hutton commercials... they were, in their own way, brilliant! But I'm probably dating my self by saying I remember them.

Yes, Nina Hollander ,we're both dating ourselves with that one. By-the-way, my husband was an E.F. Hutton kind of guy. He didn't say anything unless it was worth listening to... and people listened.

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®,CRS,
Those canned, cut-and-paste, comments are pretty mundane, aren't they?
I have always been interested in the comments made to posts. It is the interaction, and different perspectives that add to the tribal knowledge available in this realm.

Carol,
You are right, and I think the drive by folks do not realize that the public who reads our posts which includes other agents will not put them on their list of agents to refer business to.

Hi Carol- and yes, I do read the comments on the posts that I read. Sometimes I have to move quickly through them but when I can I read them all. We can learn so much from them.

Hi Carol
This is certainly an insightful post. Often the comments provide some really great information, tips, alternative perspectives, and more. I try to read them all, and certainly read those on my own posts. In terms of other's posts it depends, to some extent, on my time, but on the post topic, too! I'm not sure I have to read all the comments on someone's market report! But then again I may be missing something valuable.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat ,
Yes, that is totally my experience as well. I find the different perspectives opens my mind to new ways of looking at things.
Hi Kathy Streib ,
Yes, I am interested in the broad spectrum of ways to view a subject. It's quite interesting.
Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS ,
Yes, time IS a big factor. I find the insights of others quite interesting. Everyone has different experiences to draw from and we can all learn from each other.
I find myself reading more comment on blogs that have opposing views to my own so I can see why someone feels different than me on a topic if it is important to me. I know others that read the opposite way to validate their own beliefs.
I have been too busy to blog much lately, but when I do, I try to reply to the comments that have taken time to say something material to the blog directly on their comment hoping it is easier for others to follow.

It is always interesting to see the different point of views paging down the comments.

I have found that the most valuable posts are the ones that generate great comments.
Not all comments agree with the poster, and that is alright as it gives us another perspective.
I read the comments to learn.
Thanks

Good morning Carol Williams, yes, I do and learn a lot from them. Sometimes, I'm parked at a post for a while just reading and learning.

Hi Jim Paulson ,
Thank you for your comment. I love your attitude of learning through different viewpoints. Have a great week.

You are welcome. I learned that in my Social Problems class about 35 years ago at Boise State University and it has served me well over the years. We had people come in to talk to our class that many would consider had "social problems" (murderers, rapist, child molestors, Veterans with PTSD, gays/lesbians, white supremecists, different ethnic groups, etc.) and we were asked to write an essay on how we felt about it but not to write our names on the essays. Each week, they were collected into a binder by speaker so you could check it out from the library. I read every single paper turned in for that class. They should have called it Empathy 101 instead of Social Problems.
Hi Beth Atalay ,
I do the same thing. It's so easy to get lost in the Rain, isn't it?
