There is a flag system at the beach for a reason. It seems like many people do not pay attention nor follow the rules of the system. Over the past few weeks we have had a few deaths and numerous rescues where the first responders were put at risk as well as the people who needed rescuing.
It would be one thing if the person just didn’t know anything about the flags and what they are there for, however, it is all over the news and your responsibility to educate yourself before putting yourself and others in danger.
I feel horrible for the victims, their friends, and family. That being said, the police have been up and down the beaches telling people that they must get out of the water on the double red flag days. The swimmers would be right back in the water as soon as the police drove away. They were not fined to my knowledge, but they could be. Maybe if the fines were given, we would save a few lives. When you do not follow rules like this, you are putting many others at risk besides yourself.
