Our sick poodle in Florida

By

Okay, this is somewhat a frivolous post but when you baby is sick you take it very seriously. It must be obvious that Charlene and I have no human kids so excuse us for being nervous parents. Charlene is still at our home in Jupiter and told me that Henri was feeling sickly. Since my life depends on Henri's happiness I immediately told her to take him to the vet. He was lethargic and not eating so I am in Oklahoma City going nuts. She finally took him to the vet and we found out that the organic food we were feeding him had too much fat in it and he developed pancreatitis. At least we know what he had but Charlene was guilty about his vet bill being $506 and I reminded her that having a poodle child meant we didn't have to pay for his college education. The good news is that he is feeling better and we are changing his diet. The picture you see is our boy being pitiful to gain sympathy since he is not above manipulating us. FYI, it works.

In this crazy world where you don't even want to turn the television on it is a wonderful reminder that un conditional love does exist and where our reciprocation knows no limits. I promise you if I had any human children my basket case personality would have been even more severe. But here is one warning, be careful about irrational thoughts. After this incident with our 11 year old child we are considering cloning him. That is some kind of crazy.

I've had about a half dozen fur babies come and go and yes it is painful to see them sick or suffering Joe Pryor . No one is going to think you are crazy for loving a member of your family... even a furry one.

....Experience Isn't Expensive.... It's Priceless!

Not frivolous at all Joe Pryor being a fellow "4-legged parent" of several kids, I know exactly what you mean with anxiety over a sick baby.  So glad that Henri will be better soon!

Joe nothing frivolous about a sick family member, often we visit the vet and I just do not write about it because it would seem like we are crazy and just an FYI we have the Vet's email, personal mobile phone and there are times we even send pictures and she does virtual diagnoses.... with that said I am glad to hear your baby is feeling better, Endre

Joe Lots of people with fur babies feel like you do. My kitty has diabetes and has to have insulin X2 a day.  Glad your baby is doing better. Vets are expensive.

Hi Joe... as a pet parent... I totally get it! In my life, often when my husband is out of town when he calls in he asks first how the fur-babies are doing before asking me how I am. And I'm happy the Henri is on the mend.

Good morning Joe. I am so glad your baby is better. Cloning is in my view un-necessary as there are so many wonderful pets who need homes.

Your experience provides some very good advice for pet owners.

The organic diet you enjoy may not be suitable for your dog.

I hope that the new diet will have Henri feeling on top of the world again soon, he knows that he always has you wrapped around his little pinky, haha.

Hi Joe- caring for your loved ones, even the 4-legged ones, is never frivolous...it's what we do!  When our first Brittany suddenly went blind, Larry and I spent thousands of dollars on a doggie neurologist and doggie ophthalmologist. We don't regret it one bit. Glad to hear that Henri is on the mend and I applaud him for milking it for all he can!!!

There's no question about it, our fur babies are every bit the family members that their human counterparts are.  I hope your pooch feels better soon.

Joe I totally understand. Being a pet parent is important and it's hard when they're not feeling well and can't tell us why. Our little guy Barney got into something yesterday in the yard and we're not sure what. We're just happy it seems better today.  And agreed - they know how to 'work us'!!!

Hi Joe,
I laughed at the not having to pay for college comment.

The college comment also made me laugh...so true. I do have children - worried a lot about them - and now that they are grown, I worry about Mac.  Glad to hear your little Henri is doing much better. Too much fat in the diet isn't good for any of us - unless they are the healthy fats of course. Lol.

People are very attached to their pets. They become their children of sorts. So glad Henry is feeling better and one the mend. Who would have thought that a dog food would give him pancreatitis?

Aw pool little Henri.  At least the worst is over and he's on the mend now.  Those vet bills can be very expensive!

Please tell Charlene that my wonderful poodle got acute pancreatitis - and my bill was nearly 30x that bill - Poirot was in intensive care for 5 days - it was very expensive - but he is okay now-
