Spring Cleaning For Blogs

By
Real Estate Agent

I'll make no secret of it.  When I first saw this ActiveRain challenge posted by Debe Maxwell, urging us to revisit our old blogs, that need a little cleaning up, I was a tad overwhelmed.  I have blogged regularly for well over a decade now, and the number of total blogs written has reached 1844.  That's a bunch of reviewing of the past, which would be revisited and potentially scrubbed up a little.

In addition, over the years, ActiveRain has undergone platform changes, which often either scrambled or changed fonts, and/or diminished photo and graphic size, rendering them difficult to see.  The task to create remedy made my head want to explode.  However, Debe wasn't suggesting we revisit and repair each and every blog we had written.  She merely suggested we commit to ten.

So, in the wee hours of this morning, I found I wasn't sleeping.  It had nothing to do with worrying about this challenge and what duress it might incur.  And, it gave reason for me to sit in front of this computer screen, and in earnest create some new banners for old blogs that had them missing!  It provided an opportunity to repair fonts too tiny or scrambled to read. In addition, I found revisiting some of my posts interesting.  It was an opportunity to note changes in perspective I have experienced about certain aspects of the real estate profession over the years .  All in all, I think this challenge of Debe's was an excellent idea.

Here's the list of blogs chosen to be updated and repaired:

(1) Your Vacant Home is Listed - Now to Get it Sold

(2) Understanding Absorption Rate

(3) When Less May Be More

(4) Real Estate and Other Markets are About Cycles

(5) California Wild Fire Protection

(6) New ActiveRain FeatherNesters Group

(7) Recipe: Chicken Pasta Salad with Tomatillo Sauce

(8) Homeowners Reluctant to Buy Where There is an HOA

(9) Different Inspections and Disclosures - Urban vs. Rural

(10) Which Works Best - Being Cooperative or Adversarial

Oh, geez, you're right, Myrl. I went back to see what my blog looked like. No alignment in photos, that's for sure. html clearly prevalent. Did you know I wrote my first blog in March of 2007 about annoying letters on baby room walls? LOL. I've got almost 4,000. An enormous task I doubt I'll undertake.

My thinking is that for the most part, I won't even try to right many of those blogs that have gone wonky wrong.  For those where content is still relevant today, I might work on those, or even re-post them with some adjustments.

Myrl several pictures are missing from my older blogs, and I do not have some of those pictures anymore.  I might have to insert different pictures.

It is kind of depressing when you think about it.  All those years of work, and much of it has gone all wonky on us.

Maybe I should get on the bandwagon and if I do I will go back to the beginning to see what a younger me was saying.

I totally understand what you mean about being overwhelmed, Myrl! I had that same experience the first time we ran this challenge and didn't realize just how valuable it was until I started getting calls from two of the posts that I had revamped! SO, it was worthwhile - just time-consuming!

Great job and congrats on 10 updated, fabulous evergreen posts!

Myrl Jeffcoat - You and I were on the same page. I didn't like this contest at first because the task was daunting and time consuming. After the 3rd post, I felt compelled to complete 10 but in my spare time, I plan to go back. I was beating my breast feeling stupid about technicalities and now I feel so much better after reading your post. A lot of those mistakes were due to system changes outside of my control too!

Myrl, Not an easy job that's for sure. I still have a lot more to do. I find spring cleaning our blog posts is harder and more time-consuming than cleaning our house :)
