Open House Behavior...It's not Just Children.....Sigh....

Security and good behavior are necessary at open houses:

Original content by Sally K. & David L. Hanson 57026-90 Broker

We are ever watchful at Open Houses..we are the guardians of our Sellers' homes...their possessions and furnishings.  It goes without saying...or should that children need to stay with their parents at all times...that throwing toys in the air to see if they can hit the Naughty childrenchandelier...turning on the water to see if the whirlpool jets work...testing the beds like trampolines.. dumping out the toybox...and testing the garden hose.. .ought to all be "forbidden behavior." Parents should be "parenting" and mindful that they are a guest in someone else's home and need to behave like a guest...not a potentially destructive intruder.  On occasion...parents have needed reminders.

Worse than that ...we think ....are Agents who one would hope...apparently not always....would know how to behave professionally as they escort their buyers ....as guests thru a home.  Critiquing the home's features loudly and critically ....voicing their own opinions of style and decor..probably not what they would want at THEIR open house.  We display literature...about the house...the Phone pictureneighborhood...the buyng process...whatever we feel appropriate for that property.  Sooooo...do you think we didn't see you taking pictures of it with your phone ?  Geeeee whiz !

Sooo many things should go "without saying"....but apparently not...Whether you are an agent or a buyer...you are a guest..and shoould behave like one. If not...you will find that you are not welcome...and will be asked to leave....Yes Mr. Agent...in front of your Buyers...who should question their relationship with you based upon this experience.

Gabe what a great re-blog indeed  we  need to be security conscious, I have hired helpers to keep an eye on the open house and interestingly still saw some thieves ....ironically all they got away was one book...sort of sad on a $1.4 million dollar house and people try to get away with a $25 book...just sayin, Endre

this is so true!  I watched parents let their children jump on the owners' bed and the parents never said a word!

You mean to tell me that trying out the bathtub is out of the question? Even if I don't use the bubble bath? Oh Come on!

Good points. I always expect other agents to behave as respectfully as I do when viewing homes. I've never had to give anyone the boot from my open houses, but I've come close!

That's why I really dislike doing an open house where anyone is living.  It's best with a vacant house.
