Owning One of My Weaknesses....

Real Estate Agent with John L Scott Market Center 700512026

I'm a procrastinator.

There, I said it.

Being a creative type, I love the ideas, the putting together of it, taking risks, not knowing exactly where something might go. Being present. Going for it. My artistic bent. Following my muse.

What I'm not good at: cleanup. Hate it! (And I'm not one to use the word "hate"). Doing dishes, putting the tools away, cleaning up utensils used, scrapping things that are no longer useful. Folding or hanging up my clothes.

Arrrggghhhhh....the mundane.

Give me time and space to CREATE!!! I'm all over it! Seeing a moment in nature, grabbing my camera and shooting photos and nature videos. YEAH, BABY!!

So. This year, on my visionboard one of my self actualization exercises is this:

Practice Saying No To Yourself. Refuse 5 temptations each day.

A very simple saying that's become a constant mantra. It plays in my head and I say to myself, Okay, get this done and then you can go do something fun.

I swear, it's working! And when I make the bed, put my clothes away, do the dishes, answer that annoying task that I want to put aside for one more day; afterwards, the clean simplicity of my tasks being done makes me feel a bit lighter!

Just like the snail in my video...it may be slow-going, but keep at it, eventually you'll get there!

And then  go do something FUN.

Joan Cox and seeing around the corners as well as turning them is equally as important! Thank you for enjoying my sweet little journey video.

Yes Hannah Williams you are so right....the first step is important. Thanks for the accolades!

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate - Taking ownership is the first step towards accomplishing anything important. I love your creativity and never considered it to be a weakness of yours, nor did I think you are a procrastinator. When it comes to getting what's important done for business, you're there, in the moment, getting it done. When it comes to nature, I'm like you. I can't resist. I must be a part of their world.

I was so interested in the snail video too! Between choosing to witness the snail or cleaning house, I'd pick the snail's journey any day!

Patricia Feager what fascinated me was the series of bubbles he/she distributed around him/herself first. I need to look at up and see why that happened. And yes, you are so right, owning it IS the first step!

When it comes to most details for my clients, I AM on it. Better to get it done right away and that way I don't forget! It feels great to use that mental checkmark, "done"!

One of the things (of many) that make us kindred spirits is that you and I partake in the glories that nature unfolds in front of us. We don't miss those small moments. We treasure them.

Happy Friday, dear Sista of the Wild!

Good morning Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate,

I'm so glad Carol Williams featured your post this week I read it the first day it came out and am still struck dumb it wasn't featured! The AR Gods have taken a holiday!

I, too, can be procrastinator, Gayle... but not for mundane things of paperwork. That I'm right on top of. When it comes to creative stuff, I'm such a prefectionist, the fear of not being perfect is what makes me procrastinate.

I'm glad Carol Williams is breathing new life into this post. It's such a great one and it is amazing it never had a gold star attached to it. So weird, this feature issue in AR.  Always makes me scratch my head.  Oh well, look at all the comments. :)

Laura Filip hopefully I thanked you for subscribing! I try to always do that, but life got in the way.

Oh Dorie Dillard and Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD that didn't seem to bother me in the least! I've had so many blessings this year, that I didn't even think of that missing star. The AR Gods have always been good to me, so I'm not feeling slighted in the least! And besides, Carol Williams gave it a second chance! Wow!!!!

If we do the things we don't want to do first, then the rest of the day is so much more enjoyable - we're not dreading that particular tast. We're letting the rest of the day unwind in the best way possible.

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate  You and I must have been separated at birth. I'm both a perfectionist and a procrastinator, still not sure how I ever get anything done ! ;-)

I would never have imagined you a procrastinator! You described me all the way. We must have been twins separated at birth because I could start a dozen fun projects and delay filing my income taxes or cleaning my office, much less doing paperwork. Ugh! Oh, and I just glanced to see what marti garaughty said about being separated at birth. We must have been triplets! I hope your new plan is really working.

Yes I admit being a procrastinator too! In my kitchen is a sign that reads, "If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done."  It also does not help that I am easily distracted and impulsive too.  But I love that I have a very creative and inquisitive brain.  I do my best to overcome it daily and will certainly try some of the tips posted!  I believe I was "branded" by my Mom early on when she called me a "put-er off-er".  I guess it stuck ...

Gayle, I think we should start a club.  I'm in.  But don't know when we ought to start this thing.  Could take a lot of energy.  Whoops, there goes my email!  Bye!

I fear procrastination is one of those things that many of us share, Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate ... at least once in a while.  We each have to find our own creative ways to combat it too ... glad you have found yours!

I'm really, really good at putting off things I don't want to do.

One thing I have learned - when there's some dumb small task to be done, the best thing is to get up and go do it right now. My husband is always asking me if I'll do some little thing - and when I get up he says "It doesn't have to be now." My answer is that if I don't do it now, it might never get done. Between procrastinating and forgetting... now is better.
