Make a day of it with Skyline Drive Free entrance day on June 16th
Depending where you live in Northern Virginia and which of the 4 entrances you use to access Skyline Drive the drive to the "Drive" will take between 1 and 2 1/2 hours in normal traffic.
This weekend on June 16, 2018 would be a great time to take the family and or some friends
on a drive along the scenic Skyline Drive the "drive" is 105 miles long and runs the entire length of Shenandoah National Park. Shenandoah National Park will host a Neighbor Appreciation Festival at the Big Meadows Wayside (mile 51 on Skyline Drive) from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to stop by to see exhibits displayed by our park neighbors that showcase their wonderful amenities including places to eat, places to stay and places to play.
With 69 scenic overlook stops along Skyline Drive there will be many choices to stop and take in the beautiful views both on the west and the east side of the range. As well as great places to stop and perhaps enjoy a picnic lunch.
There are 4 entrance points to the park:
Front Royal Entrance Station near Rt. 66 and 340
Thornton Gap Entrance Station at Rt. 211
Swift Run Gap Entrance Station at Rt. 33
Rockfish Gap Entrance Station at Rt. 64 and Rt. 250 (also the northern entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway).
