Q & A - Do my Kitchen Appliances all have to be the Same Brand?

Q & A - Do all of my kitchen appliances all have to be the same brand?   I know they should all be the same exterior - whether it is stainless steel, black or white.    I need to replace my dishwasher as it does a very poor job in cleaning.    Think I will go with a different brand, but wonder how Buyers will view it if I should sell down the road.

I do believe Buyers do look at the brands, wondering if they will need to buy appliances to match once they move in, especially if the appliances are the low-end models.    We have seen many high-end homes sporting different brands, but all of them are the top models.

As long as they are all the same exterior, as you said, I think if you need to replace your dishwasher with one that actually cleans and does a good job, think it would not be a bad thing.   Unfortunately, not all the appliances under one name all fit the bill for each family.    Maybe you like the refrigerator that tells you what you need at the grocery store, but like the gas stove from GE.

In the end, buy for YOU, not for the resale, unless you are replacing the appliances because you are going to list your home.  In that case - buy all the same brand.

Joan Cox in my market, price point of the home plays into the question.  But, any price home should have the finish/colors matching on the appliances

Hi Joan, I met with an appliance salesman (he sells directly to builders)about the new homes we are building. He had some viewpoints on appliances and said in his own home his appliances are different brands and not the same line. They do all have similar exterior finishes. He says even the most expensive lines will need service. He recommends buying the brands that have the best service responsiveness records at this time and good customer satisfaction. The top brands from 5 years ago are no longer in this category.

Brian, my client said the dishwasher of the brand she chose does not have good ratings, and friends have said it wasn't good.

Nina, that is what I was thinking, as long as they are good models, and exterior is the same, all good.

You should buy a KitchenAid. Highest Consumer Reports ratings is the KTDM354DSS. I have a KitchenAid at our house in Sacramento and not one lick of trouble over the past 10 years, whereas our DW before that was Maytag and we burned through two motherboards.

Debbie, I agree, not all the appliances work well, so buy the ones you want, and others from another brand.

Joan, creative topic and not one we see many posts on. Great discussion point! I agree, as long as the exterior color is the same, I don't think it's a problem to replace an appliance with a different brand. When there's a mix of black, stainless, or white that's when the turnoff to buyers really comes.

Good advice for home owners. I agree with you. My clients are buying new construction which includes an appliance package but they are buying a fridge with a different brand.

Good morning Joan.  More often than not, in my area, it's the high-end kitchens that have mismatched brands in them.

Honestly this is such a 1st world problem... does it really matter if the appliances are all the same brand or not?  We should just be thankful to have homes with appliances that work and who cares if they match brands or colors even.  There are bigger problems in this world.

Gita, not all appliances within one brand have good reviews, and can see where a different refrigerator would work.

Not at all essential but really so nice when they do match. Still laughing over Georgie Hunter's response above.
