Delta Airlines has been controversial on many levels...the Atlanta Based Airline has started a $1.9 Billion dollar construction project at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). Their plan is to tear down the buildings at Terminals 2 & 3 and build a new structure between the two terminals and add an above-ground connector between Terminal 3 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
Now, keep in mind Delta is making this sound so simple and smooth.I love it now those of you who have flown out of LAX in the past few years might have notice or may I say got accustomed to the inconvenience of having to walk around drive around construction barriers and temporary walls to get on a plane. Why? because ins 2009 LAX has been undergoing a $14-Billion dollar modernization project which has been a nightmare for locals who pick up travelers or drop them off to fly out of LAX.
Then to boot there are now fifty to a hundred times more Ubers & Lyft drivers clogging up the terminals. I am not begrudging these poor people who try to make a few extra dollars but the LAX was not prepared for the Remodel Traffic nor the massive influx of Uber & Lyft traffic.
I had to snicker as the Delta representatives were making statements that thing's will be smooth because after passengers cleared a security checkpoint they can take a shuttle bus on the tarmac between the terminals. How optimistic is that, provided Delta does not move the takeoff location to a different gate in the last minute.
Now may I say Diane has ordered our flight tickets for the Active Rain aka NAR meeting in Boston and we already received a change, one flight canceled and re-booked on another.... wait till we get closer....
The Delta Representative aka spokes person keeps assuring everyone that there will not be an inconvenience every thing will be just smooth. Now having been in the military in a previous life I know anytime there is a movement of this magnitude mega challenges come with mega mistakes.
So why am I writing about this? Well many of you might be flying in and out of LAX and possibly even with Delta so be for-warned. this project is planned to last until 2023 for completion.
The second reason it that local Westchester Residents will have to deal with a great deal of construction equipment traffic on top of the normal LAX traffic which has been increasing over the years. This will also affect the traffic from Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey as well as Playa Vista to name a few.
