Looking for free Silicon Valley fun this summer? Mark your calendar for the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Free Movie Nights Starting Wednesday, June 20, 2018 with the classic teenage vampire film, "The Lost Boys".
What represents California Living and Americana summertime fun more than a free outdoor movie at the beach?
The Lost Boys film stars "the Coreys" (Corey Feldman and Corey Haim), along with Dianne Wiest, Kiefer Sutherland, Jamie Gertz and Jason Patric.
Many key scenes were filmed on the iconic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Carousel and local beaches. Santa Cruz is a stand-in for "Santa Carla-the vampire capital of the world."
This story focuses on a the newly-divorced mother (Wiest) and two teenage sons (Patric and Feldman) moving in with her father in Santa Carla to recover and re-define themselves.
Tragically the older brother falls in with the local bad boys, who just happen to be biker vampires. The younger son makes friends with two comic store nerds who may possess just enough know-how to maybe save his brother from fully "vamping out". Although there are a few strong scenes of blood and violence, most of it is done with good humor.
The Summer 2018 Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Free Movie Nights Season runs on Wednesday evenings at 9 pm, starting June 20, 2018 and ending August 15, 2018 (with a break for July 4, 2018).
Additional movies in the free Wednesday night series include the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", "Ghostbusters" and "Ferris Buehller's Day Off".
Guests should arrive early and bring a low-profile beach chair or blanket and a good attitude. No smoking of any kind, and no alcohol are permitted on the beach. Food, beverages and alcohol are available for purchaser at the Boardwalk. Kindly toss away all garbage in the many containers available on the way out.
Visitors may also enjoy free entertainment at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk June 18-August 17, from noon until 6 pm. The Beach Boardwalk offers Free Friday Night Bands on the Beach, with two shows, one at 6:30 pm and another at 8:30 pm, starting Friday, June 15 through August 31.
With the theme of "Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire," enjoy the free movie "The Lost Boys".
