What are your thoughts of this type of self marketing?...

Letting people know what you are doing for a profession can make or break your business. I find it is critical that we as Realtors get the word out to the public and let them know what we do for a living. At the same time, I find it important to project a professional image in the marketing. I am a bit reserved and a bit traditional to do some what others might consider “out of the box self-marketing”.

A few weeks ago, I saw a car with the Real Estate Practitioner’s name, contact number and what he charges for commission plastered all over his modest car parked in a drive way. This inspired me to take the trouble and at different times on different days to drive by the same house. Interestingly I saw the same car in the driveway. Every time I happened to drive by it was in virtually the same spot. It made me think: Is this good marketing? Other thoughts came to me as well, but not wanting to taint your point of view I will withhold my thoughts for now.

Would you cover your car with this type of advertisement? I for one would not, for many reasons. Is this something you do or would consider doing? Please do not let me influence you by my views.

Here is an example of a similar car with similar marketing on it. I was in Santa Monica, CA and saw this car. I pulled over just, so I could take a couple pictures to illustrate my point. I chose a different profession’s advertisement, because I did not want to give free marketing to the Real Estate Practitioner by giving him exposure on the Internet. I figured he can do it himself if that is a route he utilizes to do self-marketing.

I have never been an “in your face type marketer” and I have accepted the fact that it has ramifications for not going that route. I am more of the belief system that my clients come to be through personal connections on the Internet based on my writing and through my marketing.

Wow, that's a colorful car for sure. Not my thing at all but you see some car advertising like this for some businesses. Can't say I have seen one quite this dramatic for a Realtor. You had better be a great driver in this kind of car. How about THIS car I saw in San Diego a few years ago?

I toyed with the idea of having car magnets and leaving my car parked in my driveway instead of the garage, because I'm on a main thoroughfare and thought it might be good advertising. After a little consideration, I decided against in. Big Brother tracks us enough without my entire prospect list knowing where I live and when I'm home. Besides, you have to ALWAYS be a good driver and a clean car. :)

No I don't like having branding on my car.

I had magnets made for my car many years ago, but stopped using them after I accidentally cut someone off and got beeped at. Far too stressful having to worry about making mistakes and having my name and number on the side of my car.

Good evening Endre Barath, Jr. ,

I don't and never have advertised on my car. I've had new clients in the past when calling to make an appointment say "please tell me you have your car branded? I don't want anyone knowing I'm thinking of selling."Now people know that is not something I would do. I see Maid's cars, Plumbing, HVAC, Towing but just don't feel it professional for  Realtor to have their name plastered all over their car..to each their own, maybe it works for some but not for me.

With the way the world of real estate is changing these days, I am not surprised. I don't want to sit in judgement. Agents now plaster their names on shopping carts, benches, etc. Whatever works for them.

There are many view points on marketing strategy. We all see cars that have signs or even wrapped.

For real estate there are interesting view points.

I say a realtor with a van that was wrapped. The agents photo was very large and the main words was: It's all about YOU. I thought maybe that gave a mixed message.

There are consumers who want to sell their house, but would not want an agent to pull into the drive with marketing identifying they were an agent. Their thinking is they do not want the neighbors to know they are selling??? I know strange thinking, but never the less a marked vehicle would turn them off.

Interesting post.  I used to have a back glass only wrap that looked very professional.  But since I've switched companies, I removed it.  Haven't re-installed it because I never received calls from people who didn't know me.  I'd receive calls from my realtor friends who knew me, texting that they had seen me.  I figure why pay for that advertising if it's not working? Besides it takes a warm introduction or getting to know someone to trust them enough to want to transact what is oftentimes someone's largest single financial transaction.
