80% of Success Is Just Showing Up
When you are self-employed, it's so easy to get into bad habits. If you don't have to punch a clock or have to show up on time to impress the boss, it's really easy to start going into the office later and ending the day earlier and earlier. Woody Allen said that 80% of success is from just showing up. I have to agree.
It's kind of like working out at the gym. 80% of the effort is just getting there. Once you put yourself there, you might as well do the exercises.
Some days I might not have any specific appointments so it would be so easy to just sleep in or goof off. I know myself well enough to know that if I would start doing that, I would quickly form a bad habit.
So I try to get up every morning at the same time, whether I have to or not. I get in to the office by 7:30 am, come home for lunch and then back to the office where I usually leave around 6:30 pm.
I sometimes think like a college student and try to break up the day into "classes". I try to have several ongoing "classes". I'll do an hour on one and then an hour on another. I just keep chipping away every day and before you know it I'm making some actual progress on things. Otherwise, a year can go by without anything being done on a particular project.
I see that a lot. Everyone gets all revved up after a specific training course but then 3 months later, most haven't done a single thing about it. Usually the excuse is that "I don't have the time".
Earlier this year I read "The Miracle Morning". The basic premise is to wake up an hour earlier and use that time to meditate and to read a book or work on a special project. It has a lot of great reviews on Amazon. I highly recommend reading it.

I almost got into the habit of doing that but somehow I missed a few days and forgot to get back into it. It's time to get "Meditation 101" back on my schedule of classes along with "Reading 101".
It's already June. I don't want another New Year's to come along and be making the same resolutions.
