This is not a political post!

Apparently, yesterday Sara Sanders Huckabee and her family, were asked to leave a popular Virginia restaurant, simply because she works for Donald Trump, and the owner of the restaurant is anti-trump.

I am a died-in-the-wool Democrat from way back.  Probably in utero.  And a self-professed liberal.

But this sort of grass-roots guerilla warfare, is completely unacceptable.   Visiting Red Hen's facebook page will reveal an incredible amount of vitriol coming from both sides.

If we support this type of bigotry (and that's what it is, people) we're no better than those who denied a wedding cake to a gay couple at their bakery.

We need to stand up and loudly, proudly, politely and professionaly denounce this behaviour. Let the world know that this is NOT okay!  This type of behaviour does not represent the bulk of we left-wingers... we are far more 'centrist' and reasonable than the vocal minority appears... but don't try to take away our guns! ... (oh, wait... that's the other side).

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to stand by silently.

I don't get involeved in discussing politics, or religion, since you  will not change anyones' beliefs.

When you have the opposition letting you know, that they have all the answers, I wish I were so lucky to be telling everyone how to solve all the problems that we now face.

Please let me know when you have all the answers.

Best wishes,

RJ

I saw this and applaud you for speaking out. If left wingers and right wingers would quit flapping their jaws and focus on actually doing productive things we'd all be better off.

Good evening Alan May,

Thanks for posting and glad Kathy Streib is going to feature this in her "Ah-Ha" moments for the week. I agree with you, this is a form of bigotry and should not be tolerated. Our contry is about  the right to hold different opinions and we should not be persecuted for holding a different opinion from someone else. This nonsense has got to stop!

Years ago a man named Reverend Butler had an Aryan enclave here in North Idaho. One day one of his associates attempted to eat lunch at a popular Sandpoint restaurant. The staff and patrons heckled him until he left without eating.

Then the Sandpoint newspaper gleefully reported the event as a wonderful sign of Sandpoint's dedication to diversity and tolerance.

HUH??

This behavior, which is so rampant today, is nothing but saying "You have an absolute right to your opinion and your behavior - as long as it agrees with mine."

Meanwhile - I think business owners who advertise their political beliefs and behave as this one did are fools. Why on earth would you want to antagonize half of your potential customers?

Morning Alan.

My wife told me about this yesterday.  She looked at their ratings, they were getting hammered. I agree there is a time to talk politics and a time to let it go.  Carol Williams here you go

I couldn't have said it better myself, Alan: We need to stand up and loudly, proudly, politely and professionaly denounce this behaviour. Let the world know that this is NOT okay!

I'm a dyed in the wool Independent, but what I will say about Independents and Repubicans is what you said about Democrats: we are far more 'centrist' and reasonable than the vocal minority appears. It's a shame the the vocal minority overwhelms all sides of arguments these days. It's time for many Americans to stop being the "Silent Majority."

I can understand why people reacted in that manner. Because they are feeling dis-empowered. Is that a word? And they want to make it clear that what is happening in this country is not normal.

This country is going to fall apart if these tactics continue.  What next: a list of restaurants where members of one political party are welcome and the other not?  Ever hear what they do in kitchens when they don't like you?  ha

I agree. This is one of the first things I read about this morning. No matter how one feels politically, this type of behavior by a business is simply unacceptable. Telling a lady who is out to dinner with her family that she cannot eat there because of where she works, or who she works for, or what she believes is nonsense. And it's a very quick way for a business to go out of business.

Hi Alan

I totally agree. Treating others badly regardless of your, and their, politicial affiliation, or for other reasons, is unacceptable.

It is so sad what is happening and so frightening that the hatred seems to be growing more each day. The two party system is so broken and we are all paying the ultimate price.

Alan May Thanks for your good post. Ours has always been a country of opposing political opinions and I always thought we were better for it. It certainly seems like many have forgotten how to have differences and still treat those they disagree with, with respect. I had to wonder, did everyone who works at The Red Hen have the same political opinion? Would they be fired if their political views differed from the owners? Did all the patrons dining at the restaurant all have the same view? And whether they had the same view or not, why didn't anyone stand up and defend Ms Sanders and her husband's right to enjoy a meal?

School is never out for the Succesful.

Ms. Huckabee demonstrated admirable fortitude and strength of character dealing with the ugly situation the Red Hen management forced on her. It’s the equivalent of Red Hen suppliers not wanting to sell to them because of the restaurant name.
