Has the World Gone Crazy?

By
Real Estate Agent with CastNet Realty TREC#263257

I want to write, I want to write but every time I sit down to write a blog, I have to stop and ask myself,  "who am I going to offend?"

Isn't it awful that our ability to share our thoughts is now governed by what is politically correct?  I am not a person that discriminates.  I try and treat everyone with respect and treat them like I would want to be treated.  Isn't that the "golden rule"?  Why is that so hard to follow?  It isn't.

However, today's mindsets are way too sensitive.  I watch the news and see "normal" people out protesting things they know nothing about.  I see men and women and children screaming and throwing temper tantrums.  Why don't they spend that energy doing something good for someone else?  They say they want to help solve problems but they really just get in the way of people actually solving problems.

If you say anything opposite of their views, they are ready to hurt you in any way they can.  Makes you feel real loving towards that person, right?

Has our world gone completely crazy?  Sometimes, it feels that way.  It must be all the drugs that have poured into the water supply or maybe, it's the chemicals in the fish we eat today.  Wait a minute, I know it must be the hormones in the milk supply.  Or is it the antibiotics the chickens consume before we consume them?  The FDA probably knows or the CDC.  They warn us to get the flu shot every year and studies show it rarely does any good.  What has happened to us?

Is it early Alzheimers, or ADHD?  Conditioning training from TV, movies and video games?  My, how I wish for the good ole' days before computers.  We were not connected to as many people then but the ones we knew acted better.  Glad I was born when the world was nicer!

Hi Margaret Goss,  You are right, you cannot say what you want to say many times because you are in business.  Too bad that doesn't work for everyone.

Bob Crane,  Don't you wish everyone followed the Golden Rule?  What a wonderful world we would have.

I am pretty fearless. I say exactly what I mean, often with great clarity. However, I do choose my words. Words have power. Meaning. And if you are using the wrong words, the insensitive words, the words that will offend, then you have to stop and ponder whether that is something you fully intend to do. I don't see anything wrong with having to consider the sensitivities of other people first.

Some things are offensive and we need to stop saying them. We won't know unless we become more self aware.

But many bozos in the world don't want to get along.

Hi Ricki Eichler McCallum. I agree with your thoughts the people's feelings about their perceptions have really gotten out of hand. Anonymity has fostered a lot of the nonsense.

It certainly would be nice if time was spent solving problems and helping others instead.

Thanks for sharing,
Bruce.

Elizabeth, you are right.  Many just don't want to get along.  It doesn't matter what you say, they will find a way to twist it.

Hey Bruce,  Yes we need to reach out and help more.  That would be a wiser use of time and energy.

The most important home I sell is YOURS!

It just makes me sad.  Crazy is on the bus and I'm not sure who is driving.  When did it become ok to say and do such hurtful stuff?  I see folks on my Facebook feed say some of the nastiest things and then follow up with some type of religious quote.  Really? We need to make an effort to all get along.

Ricki I stay away from and out of all the craziness going on - it's just nuts. I hold the vision that one day things will turn back to a more respectful way of handling conflicts and varying ideas.

If you are conducting yourself ethically, online and in person, you should not have to fear the online mob.  It is prudent to measure your words before committing them to the Internet, so I follow that line of thinking.

Rikki, I am with you on this post... interestingly I do not go on FB just to syndicate my AR blog posts... because I do not want to see the nastiness that it has on it... I also do not turn the TV on unless it is a Red Sox game.... all day I have my classical station on to keep me calm....Endre

Political correctness seems to have made everyone ultra-sensitive to anything that could possibly be construed as a slur - even if it obviously wasn't meant that way.

I feel sorry for men who are no longer allowed to compliment a woman on a new hairstyle or a becoming dress - and I'm disgusted by the fact that we can no longer tell "Blonde jokes." So what if I'm blonde - I thought they were funny.

Meanwhile, people rant and rave and insult each other on Facebook and in the comments after news stories. They have no restraint and no civility.

Yes - it's completely insane.

Fearlessness is when you know the outcome of your actions. Writing about or talking about people, places, or things should be done fearlessly when you're positive about your facts.

Being critical without providing solutions is inappropriate and IMO shows a lack of intelligence, yet, there are many if not most who are protesting and marching who are simply ignorant and lack any sense of virtuousness.

The world hasn't gone crazy, however, many have been indoctrinated through our educational system to believe in victimization instead of accepting personal responsibility for the choices we make.

I hear your frustration - it's hard to know what's right and what's wrong when there is so much input. I'm all for "digital free" hours, days, weeks, but my business doesn't allow it.

Every once in a while one of my FB posts will strike a nerve. When I think I am in insulting territory I will remind at the end of my post “if you feel your emotions stirred please remind yourself this ain’t about your Mama!”

I feel the most for the kids growing up with social media today. Try not to sound like an oldie, but really--all that screen time is changing their attention span and its a challenge for them to have face to face conversations.  And to your point--too much blatent hate, not enough civility and engagement

Quickly, professionally and with a little fun!

Turn off the TV and don't listen to it all.  Turn off NPR and listen to the classical station (no commercials). Just read the Sunday paper and stay away from the editorials.  Watch Netflix where there is a good story and you know it has a happy ending.  Hang out with people that have the same views as you and then don't talk about politics.  And most important take your dog for a walk!

Some days it works!
