How Important are Schools in Your MLS listing ? VERY !

By

In our part of the world...one of the things very often missing from a description in MLS is the School System. Sometimes only the system is listed and not the specific elementary, middle and high school students Schoolwould attend who would live at that home.

Whether you work in relocation or not...listing schools in a property description is very important. Parents may be choosing a house that would not require their children to change schools and need to know if it would be the same elementary or middle school as they attend presently.

Often in relocation, psportsarents are concerned with the academic offerings of one school over another.  The ratings schools have...which can vary from source to source..may be important to a parent considering a home purchase.

What sports are offered is sometimes a parental concern. There may be a child working toward a scholarship who excells in a particular sport and an active athletic program can be a concern.

musical instruments   We have worked with parents who wanted their children to continue music lessons using very specific teaching methods and this program was an important factor in choosing a school system.

An important part of every agent's job is to educate the public about every listing...and Listing the education for a house is a part of that job.  Some school systems have made it easy with maps or just putting the address in a search box will tell you the school to include in the listing. Other times, it may require a phone call to learn which schools are associated with a particular location.

Be professional...give the public the information they deserve on every listing and include the schools that students will attend at every level of education.
This has been a professional reminder post for all agents in real estate brought to you by Sally K. & David L. Hanson, Broker Associates with Keller Williams Realty honored to be serving southeastern Wisconsin for all things real estate,

Most buyers want to find a home in a specific school district - so I totally agree. School district information is very important.

And I'll add that some of our school districts have multiple choices for elementary schools. Some parents want specific elementary schools, so agents have to make sure they have correctly identified all levels of schools.

School assignments are not a required field in our MLS. While the information is critical, listing agents are not required to put it in. What I've found is that agents who list in top school areas always put in the schools, while those listing in sub-standard school areas tend to leave them out.

Morning Sally.

In our MLS you must assign a school district.  Get the wrong one and you could be fined.  It's a big deal here

Good morning Sally and David.  We have fields for the schools in our MLS system.  Unfortunately, not mandatory.  I often search for people by school districts and those properties without this information won't show up.

Good morning Sally and David. Schools are more important than the property itself in some neighborhoods here in Chicago, especially the elementary schools. Enjoy your day

We have to input the schools and yes it is very important. Buyers tend to buy here for the scool zones and have 2 or 3 that they like best.

HI Sally K. & David L. Hanson - Schools are not high on the list of priorities in Sedona Arizona. We have a good school district but most people are buying a second home, vacation home or future retirement property in our area. It is a localized market.

Good morning Sally and David - oh yes.  The parents of school children we look for a school system.  Conversely, when the kids graduate and they are empty nesters they will not care and look at property taxes.

Good afternoon Sally K. & David L. Hanson,

Schools are very important in Texas. School assignments are a required field in our MLS. Buyers search by specific schools so I'm glad they are a required field. Our property tax rate is higher in Texas but more than half goes to fund the schools which provide them with what they need to rate high.

Hi Sally and David- When we lived in Houston, school districts, where the house was located were very important. Even though we didn't have school aged children living at home, we considered the school district important for resale.

Sally and David schools play a major role around here.  Schools even play a major role for Buyers who do not have children because it will be a big consideration for when they go to sell.

I could not agree more with your schools being so important to a listing. A lot of first-time buyers have no idea of this fact Sally and David...

Sally & David,

So true, schools are such an important factor in parents deciding where to buy.

Listing agents need to be more thorough in the listing  information so as to be valulable to buyers/agents.

In some cities/metro areas, there are multiple school districts (one better than the 2nd one).

Thanks,
