It turns out, one Utah ski resort was just not enough. Alterra Mountain Company, which also operates Utah's Deer Valley Resort, has entered into an agreement to buy nearby Solitude Mountain Resort.
Traveling by air? Solitude is about 35 miles from the Salt Lake City airport. Of the 77 runs on the 1,200-acre property, close to half are beginner or intermediate.
Nearby Park City's Deer Valley Resort hosted the Salt Lake City Olympics events: freestyle moguls and aerials, and alpine slalom events. Pairing these two resorts under one ownership will offer a wide variety of ski and snowboarding fun.
The sale is expected to be finalized by the third quarter of 2018.
According to their website, Alterra Mountain Company are spread throughout five states and three Canadian provinces: Steamboat and Winter Park in Colorado; Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain and Big Bear Mountain Resort in California; Stratton in Vermont; Snowshoe in West Virginia; Tremblant in Quebec, Blue Mountain in Ontario; Deer Valley in Utah; and CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures in British Columbia.
