A sleep-over.....as it used to be. Boys camping out.

boys camping a sleepover of yesterday

Sleep-over of yesteryear?

This picture was given to me by Sherry Person, whose dad collected lots of pictures and loved history, for this blog.  It makes me think of how kids used to have fun.  This seems to show young boys out in the woods with a tent, building a fire and probably planning a "sleep-over."  I have been told that kids have sleep-overs all the time now.  After asking my great grandchild what a sleep-over is and what they do, I decided NO, not at my house.  She reported that they stay up all night, play pranks, slip out of the house, etc., etc.!  Having fun, fun, fun!  NO, not at my house.

We don't know who these boys were or where it was.  But we have to agree that it was a fun, fun, fun time!

Hi Barbara- those were the good old days!!!  I can see my husband having fun doing that as a young boy.

I may be much older but I do remember those days fondly.

Camping out is a timeless event for boys and now girls as well. Backyard campouts have been popular for a while. I have a memory as a 12 year old of camping out in the backyard and  roasting potatoes over a wood fire. You thouight I was going to say marshmellows, eh?

Recently my friend Mary's 12 year old grandson asked her to take him on a overnight camping trip so they could prepare meals. She was thrilled to do so. They camped on the river at Maumelle. Here is a scene from that campout.

That looks like a really serious sleep over, Barbara.  I had a few when I was a kid, but they were in our backyard, on the lawn.

Well, yes, Don.  I never heard of roasting potatoes over an open fire!  Marshmallows, yes.  Weiners, yes, but potatoes, NO.  But maybe you had small pieces of potatoes?  That might work.
