How Do You Blog?
Blogging is such a personal thing. Where you blog, the time of day you blog, how often you blog, what you blog about, and why you blog.
My blogging method has morphed over the years that I’ve been at ActiveRain. When I began, I barely knew what a blog was or what it meant to “blog.”
Thanks to the free webinars that Bob Stewart held and the tutorials from Brad Andersohn, I learned what to do.
So how do YOU blog?
It might help others getting started or those who may have run into a bump in the blogging road to know how others blog.
For example, the hardest part for me is picking a topic. What has helped is having two topics I write about weekly on Saturday and Sunday so there’s no fretting over what topic to choose.
Agents have monthly marketing reports and listings so that covers a lot of blogging days. But there are still many days to cover, which brings me to another point.
Do you post every day, once a week, when the mood fits? I was a very slow starter and thought I was doing well to post 3 or 4 times a month. But after one of those 30 in 30 Challenges (post every day for a month) I made it a personal challenge to post every day. It’s something I’ve chosen to do...not for the points but for me and to keep my dendrites working.
Some write their post the morning or the day that they plan to post. Others will write a week’s worth and schedule them ahead of time.
I write my post the day before and set it to post first thing in the morning.
That said, it doesn’t hurt to publish or reblog in the evening as well to give your post exposure to an audience who logs onto ActiveRain later in the day (if that’s what you want.) Conversely, you might try posting earlier if you tend to post later (west coast time.)
Some members roll out all of their posts at one time. You may have seen them on the blogroll...anywhere from 5 to 10 posts all at the same time. Most of these are listings although, since I don’t stop to read them, I have no clue. However, if you’re wanting more interaction here, I wouldn’t recommend that method.
What do you post about?
It’s all up to you and your goals in writing your blog. For me, I try to write about topics that I hope others will find interesting. They aren’t just limited to staging (how boring would that be) but include local events and anything else on my mind.
Some post only for business...market reports, listings, community reports...and that’s perfectly fine. It makes the phone ring and the business soar!
However you choose to blog, remember that it is YOUR blog. You figure out your goals, the whys, and the whens.
One more thing...write in your own voice! It makes it a lot easier for you and we have the fun of getting to know who you are through your post!
