Anyone that knows me knows that I love to fish and there are often easy parallels between my favorite hobby and my chosen career. I think that most everyone can gather the concept of the statement in the title right? You toss out a line with a hook and there is a chance that if everything goes well, then you can land a fish. But with only one hook, chances are you can only catch one fish.
On the other hand, if you toss out a net you can cover a lot more water at once. This gives you far more opportunity to land more fish. Pretty much anything swimming in that are gets snapped up and caught in the net. So what on Earth does this mean when it comes to real estate? How does one use a net for selling homes?
Targeting Brokers and Relocation Managers outside of your area. A good relationship with a Broker in Charge from another area can get you referrals from an entire office. Much the same can be said for having a good relationship with the relocation manager for a real estate company. They can send you a lot of referrals as all the outgoing referrals in the company will flow straight through their department.
I will let you in on another secret, Active Rain is a very good place to start this process. I had a Relocation Manager for a company in South Carolina, that's a few hours outside Columbia start following my blog years ago. One day out of the blue she called me with a referral and we were able to put everything together and help the buyer find a new home here. The result? She manages the referrals from 14 offices and when one of their referrals comes to Columbia, I get the call. That is a really wide net.
Blogging regularly and establishing yourself as the go to agent for an area here, is a very good way to get in front of people in the industry from all over the country. Of course Facebook is another good place to find people outside your area and will give you another chance to make a connection as well. You have to do a good job when you get the referral, but if you do, chances are there are more to come. It's a great way to get multiple referrals from a single source and believe me, you want referrals in this industry.
