I have held the SRES designation for a long time as I have always loved helping seniors. I had a great relation with my parents and used to worry about them as I was so far away.
When my Father passed away I was visiting my parents in India . He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 86 and was in good health. I helped my Mother sell her house and downsize. It was a very emotional experince for me. The house was too large for my mother to live by herself.
Our next door neigbor came over and offered to buy the house for exactly half of what it was worth. I called a couple of agents to get the market value . My brothers , my Mother and I came up with a price. We received two good offers from two other neighbors and my Mother accepted one offer.
I know there are people who try to take advantage of seniors.
Now I myself am a senior.
I have helped seniors sell their home from the first year that I got my license.
I got my SRES dsignation early on so I could learn more. I receive their newsletters with information that I can share.I have the tools to meet the special needs of seniors.
I have sold many homes in active adult communities and have helped seniors downsize. Some have moved to assisted living. Some have moved into rentals or to their vacaton homes in Florida. When seniors want to relocate to Florida I can refer them to agents in Florida.
I have had to work with adult children of seniors who live out of state .
Some of the things seniors need help with are :
1. names of trusted handymen .
2. charities that will pick up their furniture that they want to donate.
3. locations where they can drop off items.
4.names of stagers if they need to stage their home.If not, I give them tips on staging using items they already own and help them declutter.
5.Some may not like to read and send email nor send text messages. They need a person who will call them on the phone. I always answer my phone and return all phone calls.
6.Some may want the listing agent to be there for showings as they do not trust strangers. I am always glad to be there for seniors.
7. I lend my fax machine as some do no have access to computers. I may have to go there in peson in some cases with documents.
8.They may need names of attorneys .
9.I assure them that we can schedule appointments during hours that they prefer and mention those hours in the mls. They may not want showings at certain times. I agree it is best if we can show homes on short notice but seniors have unique needs and have fears. Moving is a stressful event for people of any age and it is more stressful for seniors.
10.Depending on their particular situation some seniors may want to sell first and them buy a house and are woriied they may not find a house. They should work with an experienced agent .
My expeince and my strategy can be utilized no matte where I move . If I have to move and start over again , I will use this experience as a seniors real esttae specialist to help seniors sell and buy a home.
I will learn about the active adult communities in the area. I will tour all the communities and learn about the amenities they offer.I will take pictures of the communties and blog about them. I will also write about restaurants and shopping in the area.
My niche will be helping seniors as a Seniors Real estate Specialist. I can help seniors no matter where I move as I have the experince and the knowledge..
