Queen Liliuokalani Keiki Hula Competition The Kalihi-Palama Culture & Arts Society, Inc. is presenting the 43nd Annual Queen Liliuokalani Keiki Hula Competition on July 19-21, 2018 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center Arena.

 

This competition was established in 1976 to provide a venue for children ages 5-12 to showcase their achievements in ancient and modern hula. Four hundred youngsters will represent over twenty five halau from Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Hawaii Island, and Japan.

This would be a fun event to attend, I have not seen hula in a very long time.  I remember that I really enjoyed watching it though.

Aloha Sheila Anderson, hula competitions help preserve the authenticiy, integrity, and continiuty of hawaiian hula, as well as, advance it's evolution, and provide the public with a wonderful opportunity to see multiple halau(schools) perform in one venue. Although some may frown on competitiveness, it is an essential part of Hawaiian culture and the preservation and advancement of our cultural traditions. Mahalo for the visit.
