How to Be the Sacramento Agent Other Agents Refer

When I worked on short sales, back in the market crash days, I routinely received referrals from other agents in Sacramento. But that's because those agents had half a brain and did not want the madness that accompanies short sales. Plus, they knew I was a specialist in that area, and their clients would be in good hands.

Fast forward to today, when most people have equity, and it seems I am still an agent other agents refer. As a listing specialist who does not work with buyers, I guess the word has gotten around. I have to agree with Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD when you are secure in your own abilities, there is no problem referring a client. In my former working life, I was very competitive but found that when I needed to refer someone to a competitor, my life was easier. It freed me up to focus on what I could do and what I wanted to do. 

You were referred someone because of your reputation!

Kathy Streib I figured later it must have been reptutation. I had a client call me today whose home I'm listing in a few weeks. He said another agent he canceled an appointment with called him to ask who he decided to hire. The agent's response when informed was "OH!" The seller thought that was rude, like the agent should have been more professional and said "best of luck" or something.

I told him the agent was probably stunned, and figured he could not compete since I have such an unfair advantage due to experience and skill.
