Q: Do you know why the ocean roars?
A: You would roar too if you had crabs on your bottom.
We enjoyed another lovely oceanside sunset last night. This time it was at Seaside, Oregon. Seaside is one of my favorite Oregon beach destinations because there are so many options for oceanfront hotels within easy walking distance to town, shops and plentiful eating establishments. Frankly, I am spoiled. I won't even go if I can't get an oceanfront room. I don't want an ocean view, where you may have to crane your neck to get a glimpse of the ocean. I want to sit or stand anywhere in my room and see and hear the ocean.
My most recent post Vitamin Sea Time was dated Monday. We had enjoyed a lovely evening and beautiful sunset in Lincoln City, Oregon. Tuesday we had a tee time to play golf at the Salishan golf course.
We had left our hotel early in order to browse through the shops at the resort before our round. Sadly, ALL the shops were closed. Fortunately, since we were so early we were able to get on the course early and not have to just sit around waiting.
It was a very pretty course and fabulous weather. We were hungry at the turn so we order a "Fairway Dog", which turned out to be a footlong hotdog. I think they should rename it the "Long Drive Dog". We stopped for a drink after the round but the clubhouse was somewhat deserted. It seemed understaffed but everyone who was there was nice.
During the round (being the ex-REALTOR and Property Manager that I am), I was noticing a lot of deferred maintenance at the resort, specifically the very poor shape of all the condo unit roofs. They appeared to be all the original shake roofs from when they were built in the 1990's. A little more research revealed Salishan was purchased by new owners. They have grandiose plans for renovations and expansion that have met with considerable backlash from the locals so the improvements have been stalled. I sure hope they get back on track soon because, other than the golf course, it was very disappointing. I would definitely go back for the golf but not even consider accommodations at the resort without knowing the improvements have been made. Since it is not right ON the ocean, I probably wouldn't stay there anyway... but just sayin'.
