Follow up Diagnostic Mammogram and Porn Ransom

By
Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

It was a little disconcerting waiting for UC Davis to call me for an appointment after my doctor found a lump in my breast. I could feel the lump, too, and figured, well, it's my time to deal with this. Everybody else I know has dealt with this. No big deal. Then the days ticked by. By day 10, I sent an in-office message to my doctor, asking when was UC Davis planning to book this follow-up appointment while I sit here contemplating mastectomies vs. chemotherapy.

The radiology department at UC Davis then called Monday morning, while I was at a listing appointment in Fair Oaks. I called back and left a message. Four hours went by so I called to leave another voice mail. Following morning, still no call back, so I called again mid-morning; let them know this was my 3rd call to make an appointment and finally secured a timeslot for yesterday.

Nobody should have to go through that. But today, if you do not take responsibility for your own health, don't expect anybody else to do it.

Further, I mentioned to my husband that I heard there is a procedure where they can remove your breasts and leave your nipples intact, and I was planning to Google that option, oh and btw was he coming with me to the diagnostic appointment? They said I had to be there for 2 hours to talk with the radiologist after another mammogram, followed by an ultrasound. So,  he promptly decided to go.

Then, get this, as I am standing half-naked in a gown, waiting for the radiologist to finish her paperwork, my Apple Watch tingles. Not taking THAT off. I glance at my wrist, and it's some hacker emailing me to say he knows my password and I can bribe him with bitcoin not to publish a porn video to all of my contacts. Which he claimed to have hacked. Fortunately, it was a really old password, from 15 years back, but some security breach undoubtedly exposed it. There have been so many security breaches.

Oh my goodness, Elizabeth... so sorry to hear that you had to go through this... bad enough, but when the uncertainty goes on and on and on, it's all magnified beyond tolerance. I'm glad to hear all is well at the end of day. Is that fatty deposit going to be removed?

Some years ago I had a major gall bladder issue which they couldn't seem to diagnose. And even after they took my gall bladder out I continued to have issues which they couldn't figure out. I was convinced aftet two months I was about to die of liver cancer... turned out not to be so, but I can relate after going for months before my issues were fully resolved.

Elizabeth - I am so sorry you have had to endure this.  Not only the diagnostic hassle but the porn ransom dude as well.  Your story about having issues getting appointments is one I'm hearing from others lately.  I actually sat in a radiologist's waiting room with a friend a couple of weeks ago.  He had been scheduled by that radiologist to have an ultra-sound of his thyroid.  After, we sat there for nearly an hour, he was called up to the desk, and told, his insurance company had not yet approved the procedure, so they needed to reschedule.  Another friend, who I swim laps with, was scheduled for a mammogram, and after waiting in that office for an extended period of time, was told she'd need to come back, because the technician had overslept.

I read that the lump was fatty tissue. Thank goodness. I am a complete hypchondriac so I know the feeling. And those kinds of calls are getting worse and worse. It is just too sad because you know there are people who are falling for them.

I would have PAID to see that porn video. Darn.

Am hugely relieved for you that it's just fatty tissue. But all that waiting to find out? There's gotta be a better way.

Yes, see you at New Year's at the Halekulani, mangoes and all, to ring in the New Year with a series of great parties .  Wonder what 2019 will hold. It can't possibly outdo 2018, starting with that Ballistic Missile attack scare - I still haven't gotten over that. But maybe that's what "old age" is all about, getting as many experiences in as possible right to the bitter end.

Myrl Jeffcoat Thank you for your kind words. Those friends of yours should complain. Nothing ever gets any better unless you bring it to the attention of those you're counting on for service.

Joan Cox Well, at the point between the mammogram and the ultrasound, they asked me to sit in a room outside of the waiting room. But after the porn ransom I went out to the waiting room and sat there in my gown, while my husband googled the hacker and told me there was nothing to worry about. Because I sure was in favor of his sending whatever he had, LOL. Wrong person to blackmail.

Jane Peters Yes, if only one person sent him $2,900 each week, that's a good annual income.

Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® Yes, that is exactly what aging is for, to slip in as many experiences as humanely possible as we edge ever closer to the end. Could be today. Could be tomorrow. Could be 30 years from now. Well, for me, not so sure about YOU, ha, ha, ha, ha. Hey, just sent you a referral for Carmel.

Parallel lives yet again.  I had my diagnostic mammogram, that cost more with my insurance than it would have if I had paid cash to the facility of my choice, which wouldn't take me because I had insurance.  Mine was also nothing.

Guess I'll know what to do when I get the ransom about porn.  LOL.

Chris Ann Cleland You will know when you see that email. It starts out "I know your password is XXXX." That's the part that freaked me out. But then I figured it's so old and there are so many security breaches. The porn video thing was just plain weird.

Good grief, I stop in to see what you have been up to and freaked out for only as long as it took me to get to the final diagnosis- which was a significant amount of time less than you had to wait for it!   I'm so glad to hear you are OK, and it is horrible to hear the way people are treated so off handedly by the medical profession these days.  As for the porn video threat... really?!!

Mary Douglas There are so many good things that happen in any given day that it's kinda hard to dwell on the negative crap, so I just put a humorous spin on things. Best way to deal with that stuff.

Hope your summer is going well and there are limited fires in your direction!
