When I was growing up in Kentucky I didn't meet many world travelers. Sure, there were the soldiers who had fought in Korea, Viet Nam and even many who had fought in WWII. Not much to enjoy about those trips. Travel was something Kentuckians just didn't seem to care much about. It took us far from God's country (Kentucky) and left us longing to get back.
My dad was a bit different. Although he loved Kentucky, as a Navy pilot, he had a love of travel. Luckily for us all, he served most of his tour in Alaska and Washington state. He loved Alaska and I have the slides to prove it.
He would also love the fact that his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are now world travelers. Our little family has seen Australia, Mexico, Greece, Bosnia, Italy, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, USSR, Panama, Portugal, Belgium, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and maybe one or two more...it's hard to keep track! It truly is a small world.
Everywhere we've gone we've found friendly, welcoming natives. But, if we watch the news now we don't see that welcome. We see hate and discontent...misery and madness. And, it seems to be directed at our country.
Such a shame. Civility seems to be in short supply, doesn't it? Even here.
