Hungry Harvest - End Food Waste and Hunger
I recently signed up to receive shipments from Hungry Harvest after a friend of mine told me about it. You can receive shipments when you want, cancel at any time with no penalty. My first box of goodness came on Friday and it was filled with fresh Kale, fresh Spinach, seedless cucumbers, green beans, eggplant, onions, oranges, apples, grapefruit, a pineapple and an ice pack to keep everything fresh while it waited for me to get home.
Hungry Harvest searches the country for fresh fruits and vegetables that may otherwise go to waste because they are too small, too big, not the right shape, they are ugly or they are surplus. These are boxed up and delivered right to your home. In my area they deliver on Friday.
The boxes come in a variety of sizes, a package suitable for 1 to 2 people is $15-$28, 3-5 $25-$40 and 4 to 7 people is $35 to $50. The variation in price is by area and also whether you choose regular produce or organic or mixed or all vegetables or all fruit.
I am allergic to strawberries so I was able to customize my order so that we don't receive strawberries and we do receive other products we really like. We love brussels sprouts, beets and some other items that other people might not like.
Tonight I cooked some Kale with onions and garlic in chicken broth and mixed it with pasta and made eggplant parmesan and I sliced up some of the cucumber. It was delicious. I love to experiment with different recipes - what will I make next?
Check their website to see if they serve your area. And be sure to include this promotional code and you will get $5 off your first order.
